I went to miku expo in Portland and I can say for myself I had so much fun, but at the same time I am so angry. Yes, there was a screen and yes it was small, it was my first concert and I was mostly unbothered by the screen when I first arrived but now looking back it makes me so angry. Also btw addressing the merch situation the merch sales started at 2PM, reminder that the show starts at 9pm. I had vip and the whole point of buying it was to get early access to merch since I wasn’t able to get a glow stick but because of this and them not telling us merch was available to the public at the same time there was pretty much no reason to get vip

I am thoroughly glad I was able to see hologram Miku and the other Crypton vocaloids when she came to Los Angeles and New York, for Miku Expo in 2014. It was only her 2nd time in America at the time and it was just as amazing as all the concerts they had in Japan. It was a dream come true for my 13 year old self

"World is mine" is pretty much an entrance gateway for many people into Vocaloid. So is mine. I went to the Miku expo 2024 in Vancouver, it is pretty prevalent as it was the one song that people sing to at the concert. Add: it was pretty disappointing that it was a LED TV.

Miku Expo April 9th Attendee here! To make sure I got merch, I had to get there at 10 am, but on the 8th people who were there at 6 am got screwed over because MX fucked up and kept moving the line. Also on the 8th they had fucked up the lines, making 3 different GA lines that allowed people to cut the line and skip so many people. Also fun fact we witnessed a car crash at my location. Stolen car and hit and run, VIP line was almost hit and it was just fucking wild. I do agree the blending of the stage was better but still jarring, and for a couple of songs the model changed completely which kinda broke the immersion. Also the band members were still in the cage, Atleast when I was there. I had a fun time because of the people, live music, and seeing myvirtual idol perform, but I’m still disappointed in the set list and how this was handled.

April 9th San Jose survivor here. The TV looks awful in pics and videos, but is surprisingly pretty good in person. It was my first time going to a Miku concert, much like you, but even going with lowered expectations, it was an absolute blast! The band is fantastic, the crowd was super energetic, and it was a great all around experience. I do agree that Crunchyroll and CFM need to answer for what happened this year though. I want next year to be even better! And thank goodness I kept listening to the video, I almost posted spoilers. >_>

I hope the outrage ensures that this never happens again, at least not without clarification beforehand that a hologram won't be present. If it was known before tickets went on sale that it'd be a LED screen, I'd still be disappointed but it's better than having to find out from people who saw it themselves. It feels like Crunchyroll was purposefully avoiding making a statement or something going, "By the way, the holograms that these shows are so famous for that they've become the bare minimum of what to expect? Glow sticks are so unreasonably hard to get if you didn’t pre order. Merch lines at the venue are near impossible if you don’t go there 5 hours early. I went to the pop up in Pomona hoping to get a light stick. They only brought 30…. Only 1/4 of the line through and it sold out in 20 minutes and I didn’t get one. Felt so defeated and bought a cheap Temu one and painted it black💀

If it was me I wouldn't allow this to be my first Miku concert, neither should you guys. You should vote with your wallet and tell the production company you are not ok with this and you want the real thing, you want a quality show. I'm a musician, I know that when it comes to you audience, you have to respect them and give them a show they will remember forever. You should never be content with whatever and let this toxic positive attitude cloud your judgment. You deserve better and you should demand better. I wouldn't pay for this because it can send the wrong message and from now on, every time Miku comes to America, they will send the TV screen. What do you think would happen if they tried to pull this on the Japanese audience?.

My friend bought tickets to Miku Expo Europe on my behalf (and someone else), i repaid my friend, got transferred the tickets and i was so excited!! We got a hotel and everything, and got standing tix because any other option was so expensive and we’re students. I’ve only just heard about all of this, and as a very short person who has literally never been to a concert before, i’m pretty worried. Miku looks tiny on the screen, i have no idea how i’m going to see her if they keep with the decision to have an LED screen. At least there’ll be talented musicians and banging music.

For the glowsticks, I'm pretty sure they allow chemical glowsticks that aren't longer than 6", so I'm thinking about getting some of those before the concert in case I can't get an official glowstick just so I have something. My show is also one of the last ones so I'm hoping (coping really hard) that they'll have the usual projections or at least a better set up by then. Even if they don't, I think I'll still have fun

If you want a current update, as for the Texas shows, the merch wasn’t any better :( we kinda got snubbed because they added a new date for the expo which was the 24th and the original day was the 25th and the merch that was meant to be for the 25th show got sold at the 24th show and everyone that went to the original date didn’t get enough merch for everyone :/

When we went, we were let in early for VIP. We went in at 6 and normal tickets got in at 7. We were wandering around and asking staff where the merch store was, because we'd been saving to go buy things and maybe get light sticks. NOBODY would tell us where it is. Some how none of the staff (who had just worked for the concert literally the day before) knew where it was. Any of the fans we asked there also magically didn't know. So we got our seats and enjoyed the show. It was only afterwards that we were leaving did we finally get an answer from one of the staff that the merch store was opened to EVERYONE at 2. No where near when the doors opened or show started. It opened at 2 oclock and sold out immediatley because the few people that could find it (it was in a seperate building away from everything) bought everything and are reselling it highly priced. There's a merch area in the concert building...a section specifically made to be used to seel merch, a massive room with shelving and everything. And they didn't use it. Instead it was hidden down the road around the corner in a SEPARATE building and open at 2 way earlier than everything else. So we never got to even SEE the merch store. So glad we got VIP bags at least and got SOMETHING from the show. I was just gonna get one of those small pins and leave it at that, just as something to remember and show like "Hey look, I went to the Miku expo!" but no. Somehow everyone was ignorant to where it was, even the people WHO HAD MERCH. I was somehow more upset about that than the screen. It was frustrating. We didn't mind the screen though because we were close to the front and got to see it better. I had told my friend that it may not be a hologram since they don't use any social media and we just said we'd have fun no matter what. And we did. The graphics and models are amazing up close, but I can't imagine how difficult it must've been to see from the back. In the end we had fun and messed with the crowd. Met some nice people next to us who just came from the shows in Japan who gave us some stickers they were handing out. For my first concert ever it wasn't a bad one, would definently go again, screen or not!

I went to San Jose day 2 and this was my first Miku concert. San Jose day 2 had a lot of stock of Glowsticks with them having 6 boxes of Glowsticks (570) in stock for day 2. We all bonded and laughed with all the chaos like the car crash that happened, we all cheered for Elmo before the show started and still disappointed about the LED, but I will say it looks much better in person and was enjoyable. Most people in SJ just accepted the fact it was LED and said we are going to have fun anyways. I am sure you are going to enjoy it

My friend went to it and said: “Yeah that’s what it was, but it still was pretty fun” Their message felt a little empty though… Mainly because they didn’t really mention anything as to why it was fun. I’m not sure if they were trying to tell me that to assure me everything was fine (I felt really bad for them and wanted to be supportive) or if they were telling themselves that to have a better memory. They might have only said that because they didn’t want to say anything bad about Miku. If they really did have fun though, then I’m glad! Hope everyone else had fun too regardless!

I’m really fucking pissed that I waited before the start of the San Jose show on April 9 for the merch booths, because clearly there were like 3 songs playing in the background. I was waiting for the glowsticks and when I arrived there, they SOLD OUT!! But I still enjoyed the show even though it was my first Miku Expo I been to!!

as someone who regretted not getting a ticket for miku expo when it was announced, i'm honestly glad i didn't go. but i still feel terrible for the fans who spent their money anticipating the amazing hologram technology only to be met with a stupid TV screen and the barely shown live band (which could only be properly seen in a few of the venues sadly.) it's even worse that they used the same screen for miku's coachella stage which just added salt into the wound. let's not even mention the thousands of non-vocaloid fans who are basically making fun of fans for this whole experience or the mainstream news articles claiming that miku is an "AI generated singer" which just puts down all of the amazing vocaloid producers who spend so much of their time having to tune the vocals and create the music. this year's miku expo was such an embarrassment to us fans and i can only hope the class action lawsuit go through smoothly with a good outcome :(

i went to the san jose miku expo with my friends, it was my first miku concert and i had a good time! my glowstick must be broken or something though. in comparison to everyone else’s glowsticks the yellow and orange are more orange/reddish than they should be, and the pink isn’t even pink it’s just straight up red, there’s barely a difference when i change the color from what’s supposed to be pink to red 😭 some of the glowsticks even glowed purple instead of pink 💀

I have tickets to the october performance in the UK, and i am kinda hoping they either 1) make the screen bigger or 2) make her a hologram as promised. But we know crunchyroll by now, thats probably not going to happen. It wont help with the fact it is the O2 Wembley arena (btw those who had O2 priority got early access tickets a few hours before the crunchroll ones...) This is also my first Miku thing im going to so im pretty nervous already...

The San Jose show was great, but you can tell show runners didn’t talk to the venue about the lines because there was no signs on which were vip and which were GA. The lines were very unsafe, and the merch booth cut out GA ticket holders right before the show, when the VIP should’ve gotten their early access in the beginning. Merch booth also didn’t honor the one glow stick per person purchase rule which left a lot of people out

I went to MikuExpo on 2016, it was the first time they came to Mexico and I had to take the chance, honestly it was amazing at that time the quality was still peak with the light spectacle and the holograms. Last year I saw MikuExpo announced for 2024 and I was very tempted to buy tickets to go with my partner, he doesn't really vibe with Vocaloid but I thought it could be a cool opportunity to show him some of that world and maybe get him to get a little into it. THANK GOD I DIDN'T BUY TICKETS, I think it would have been a horrible disappointment to me to see a fricking screen instead of the holograms and it would definitely have been a cringy experience for my partner... Honestly I think it's more worth to wait and save enough money to go to a Magical Mirai concert in Japan instead...

I still really wanna go eventually! The nearest for us is in georgia and i really hope that if they aren’t doing holos that just blend the screen better. Vocaloid forever changed my life I WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY IF NOT FOR MIKU AND THE OTHER CRYPTONLOIDS, and i won’t let an led screen stop me from atleast trying to go and if not i will save to go to mirai maybe? I went to thw Phoenix one and it was a TV too. The rumor for night one is they had issues with the TV, a huge dead portion down the center of the TV. But i went to night 2 and it was fixed.

sadly, nothing has changed, and still no word from Crunchyroll. at the Austin event, they only had 95 glowsticks. and merch prices were higher than in previous years. I was glad to see more costume changes and a variety of songs. I did miss the hologram and that they did not bother to bring the Japanese band. over all it was a good show.

I do agree with you that the live band carries a lot of the show. The LED TV wasn't that bad on my end especially with the lighting and stage fog, but regardless it could have been better. My friend and I still enjoyed the show and the song list was a lot of bangers.
