In primary school in Australia (SA) we were encouraged to save. We had a saving culture in the 1970s and it gradually became less prominent as we became a nation of spenders. In high school in Australia (WA) there were courses that talked about budgeting and some basic accounting knowledge. In university I never did any finance courses. However my financial education improved when I started working by reading books by good financial gurus. However it can be fraught with peril, because some are fraudsters. I can give good recommendations for Australian financial gurus, but not all the knowledge may be applicable to overseas.
@KatChats.6 жыл бұрын
I would definitely be interested in hearing about them even if they may not be applicable to Finland directly xD

Ok then. I would suggest 1. Scott Pape aka the Barefoot investor - basic stuff here, but what I like from reading his works is that he makes you consider the question "do you really need that stuff." If you do, sure get it, but if you don't then save the money. To elaborate, he was still driving a second hand car from his teenage years even when he was working as a stock broker, because a flashy car wasn't that important to him. 2. Noel Whittaker - making money made simple. Goes through compounding and various forms of investments including property and shares. The property bit might not necessarily be relevant to Finland since a lot of Australians want to buy their own home (its called the Australian dream) while my impression is that a lot of Finns live in apartments and own a summer home which is only visited for holidays.

No we never got this kind of financial education here in Australia. I think you are right, it should be part of any school curriculum.😊

Good luck with the apartment, I don't feel you can really regard yourself as a grown-up without having your own place and being responsible for yourself (the budgeting). You've provided enough entertaining videos to have earned a favour back, and trying to help kids learn life-skills is an admirable cause. Played it through and put some feedback.

Congratulations on your home! Plus, I also lacked any education on that issue, we had abstract "economics" classes, but nothing about personal money management. I would download the app, sadly I am using only my PC for internetting.

I have a degree in Finance, never had any personal finance education. The important thing that is hard to teach without having skin in the game is cash flow. Also the Finnish education system should teach American English, a kid I tutor in Riihimaki showed me his book and I couldn't stop laughing

Jari Satta again I disagree, one thing I've learned is that the keys to understanding life is in grasping the paradoxes. For example, the answer to complex problems is simplicity, the answers to simply problems turns out to be the most complex to solve. Here is where the topic at hand is to be found .... The skill set needed to survive is antithetical to the skill set need to thrive

Hello, I loved the video. There's something I would like to ask, and you can consider it. I would like to also hear things you say in Finnish, but because my finnish is very bad, trasncript would be very helpful, so maybe you can add Finnish subtitles. But don't do it if it is too much work.
@KatChats.6 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you so much! And yeah, I've realized it would be extremely helpful to have both English AND Finnish subtitles you're absolutely right! And the moment I have enough time to edit both of them in I'll 100% make them! :)
