I’m so glad you popped up on my feed today - this was the perfect companion for sitting at my desk and slogging through paperwork. Also, your sweater is STUNNING.

Excellent watch, not too long at all!! I love seeing people's different philosophies about their stashes-- helps me sort out my feelings towards my own (which, similar to yours, has a reasonable amount of knitting yarn because I go through it at a good pace, but enormous amounts of fabric and such that I use much less regularly and just sit on like a dragon) With regards to the beetle-eaten yarn, honestly that seems like a perfect opportunity to try some fearless experimental weaving. It's not material you like or are attached to, so if you waste some or if it's difficult to work with you're not losing much-- by attempting a project, no matter how it goes, you'll gain experience and self-knowledge and certainty about what to do with the yarn, it won't be a schrodinger's box of anxiety and frustration anymore.

that is a really good point about the damaged yarn - i feel a little silly about not coming to that conclusion myself after going on about ~embracing the process~ thank you for the suggestion and i’m so glad you enjoyed the video!

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been trying to remind myself that the sheep are always growing more wool to get myself into action with my stash! ❤️ look forward to seeing all the projects you choose to work on this year!

okay i commented earlier before finishing the episode lmao but you could try fulling or even menacing the jacob yarn. that would add strength and i’m pretty sure it’s an ideal way to finish woolen spun and prepped yarn if you want to strengthen it! i recently finished a woolen spun/prepped cashmere/angora/merino yarn by menacing and it worked sooo beautifully.

thank you for the suggestion!! i did do some wet finishing and light thwacking, but don’t believe ive tried menacing before and will look into it!

first of all I'd try to use the yarn for a rug weave, and if you start and don't want to do it, you can donate to a school or after school program. if you tell them the process you went through, they will still likely take it - I'd look for a school in a nonaffluent area, they likely don;t get as many people stopping by destashing their supplies.

I’m a complete weaving beginner currently working on my first scarf on a 4 shaft table loom and the lovely lady who’s teaching me has me using an 8 dent reed while doing 16 wpi so two in each slot. My terminology is probably awful but I hope that makes sense! 24:03

Maybe with the bin of beetle yarn you could do like a punch needle rug with it? I don't even know if you know how to punch needle but learning another fiber craft is always fun. Plus it would probably be easier to deal with the breakage? idk just a thought
@phantomtoothfredКүн бұрын
this is maybe my favorite idea so far!! i have yet to dabble in punch needle but i’ve always wanted to!

@@phantomtoothfred yay! I definitely think it would be the most painless way to use the yarn plus you get to learn a new craft! :)

You could spin this nutiden yarn and ply it and then knit or weave a blanket with it.

You don't need to acquire a 24-dent reed to weave fine warp, just double the number of threads per dent on the 12-dent reed! No weaver I've ever talked to owned more than 8, 10, 12, and sometimes 16 dent reeds.
@phantomtoothfred5 күн бұрын
@@hanblue4413 very helpful insight! ive done that before with 8/2 cotton but i feared the 2/20 wool would need to be tripled or quadrupled and maybe that would be too many threads in a dent? but maybe the sett doesn’t need to be that close perhaps - i’ll have to try and see!

This was so fun to watch! Your color palette is so inspirational. Do you use Ravelry? (maybe you've mentioned before)
