I was born in 1963 and I lived through tiny Tim getting married in a wedding dress on TV and 80s glam-rock and flip wilson being Geraldine we never had a problem during the 60 years of my life and all the sudden all the Republicans with a tiny bit of majorities in statehouse, this is what they're spending it on. The actual target isn't drag. Drag is a means to an end. The purpose of banning drag is to ban "man in a dress." Who else gets referred to as "men in dresses?" Trans women. That's the endgame for all of this.

That's the opening game. The end game is total control, a dictatorship. They'll never be satisfied with anything less. Made this a couple of years ago because it was clear to me all of this BS was being created decades ago.. First republicans came for the trans people. I did not vote them out because I wasn't trans. Then republicans came for the pro-choice people. I did not vote them out because I was not pro-choice. Then republicans came for the progressives. I did not vote them out because I wasn't a progressive. Then republicans came for the second amendment. But there was no one left to speak for those who had helped all of this happen.

There's a name I haven't thought of for a long time. The first time I read "Night", I was about 9 years old. I spent about 6 hours at the foot of my bed that night running in place JUST to see if I could have come close to surviving some of the things they were put through. I remember going to sleep after thinking that wasn't so bad... then waking up with floppy tubes full of PAIN instead of legs. The sentiment is entirely true though. Throughout history (and especially American history) it has taken an overwhelming majority to actually change things. Far more than 50% of people were in favor of ending slavery, and yet it still took a Civil War to finally get it done. Far more than half believe women should have the right to choose, and yet not only did it take a while to get that legal right, but then it got taken away WHILE IT STILL HAD POPULAR SUPPORT! Far more than half the population wants sensible gun reform, nationalized health care, an increased minimum wage, a reformation of campaign finance, and a plethora of other things, and yet because a vast swath of the population refuses to even stand up to be counted, let alone put voice and action to their stance unless they are personally affected, nothing gets done.

Drag shows are not automatically porn. However, people who see lgbt folk as pornographic, probably only ever see lgbt people in the context of porn. When I hear the words "rock" and "queen" together I can not help but to think of the legendary Freddie Mercury! I grew up listening to that band as a small child and to think of the hate that man would face today is gut wrenching. Even back in the day when I was younger listening to them, some people in my extended family would make some rude comments about him, the F word and his death if you know what I mean.

I recommend that every straight American see at least one drag show in their lifetime. I'll admit I was a little weirded out initally at the first one I went to, but the first performer saw my trepidation, sat on my lap with the spotlight on us, and coached me through it with encouraging words (and a little harmless sexual innuendo). Everyone there was great and it wound up being a total blast.
