I think the most overlooked thing resellers do is the first step. How much are they paying for the item they are trying to resell. The hardest work I do as a reseller is this first step. Making sure I get my items at an amazing price. Then everything else falls into place. I can now afford to promote at a high %, I can now afford to give an employee a raise, I can now afford to absorb inflation. Everything else takes care of itself. If I were to do the opposite and overpay for my inventory well now everything is a battle. Make your first step your best one !

@@ernestvalenzuela3561 yep and your one step ahead of your competitor that overpaid and cant lower his price or he is in the red (not making any profit) for example if you get your items for 10% what your going to list them for but your computer pays 50% of what he is going to list it for he has hardly any margins to work with and will soon be out of business

I'm going for the larger store and same or more margin by lowering my COGS. Love this episode, Tech. BTW...one thing for sellers to keep in mind when promoting is the fact that not all sales will be charged at promoted. I promote 10% across the board but my average overall is only 6%. So I keep that in mind when projecting profit.

@@immersivezen do you do dynamic? where you cap it at 10% but i can fluctuate between 2% and 10%? im thinking about doing dynamic that way right now im doing static % (so a fix % across the board)

I love listening to you! When I first started reselling, someone gave me a 50 gallon bucket full of rocks. They were fist sized geodes; I sold every one of them on eBay and made a load of money. My son still teases me about selling rocks. You rock! Thank you.

What I'm doing to save more and generate more. I've stopped shopping last 17 days. Listing what I have. Started a draft bank. These 2 years REselling, I help my bin's store clean "as I shop" by taking all the empty boxes, packing air pillows, bubble wrap, thank you cards, loose stickers and poly bags for free - barely spent money on these items for 2 years SAVING A LOT OF MONEY. Today I didn't buy anything but walked out in 45 minutes with around $150 worth of shipping materials. The bin store is 4 blocks away . Owner gives me a few rolls of tape, almost every time I go. The post office gives me free tape too. Sold 5 items today for $455 - Cost of goods for all 5 items was $18 total. I'm making myself obsessed with listing great items...go shopping in my sleeping money piles when I get anxious to want to shop. THANKS FOR ALL YOU SHARE. It's appreciated! THANKS for telling me get my ish together a few months ago @techN 😂

Bro, the struggle is real. Most think eBay is just find it, list it, sit back and get paid. The amount of sacrifice with social and family life it takes, only the eBay community will ever understand. It’s easy if you’re just throwing a couple things up here and there but to make it and scale is an entirely different ball game. Takes hard work and long hours.. there’s no other way around it and unfortunately, it’s those that are close to us that feel the full effect.. but you gotta grind to give them the life you never had growing up.

Agree 100% should be profitable day 1. Day 1 you can look around the house and grab items you aren't using. Then build a small bankroll, buying $1 to $5 items, selling for $25. Don't buy to buy, buy items you can sell and get them listed. I love buying, listing that day and selling the item a couple of days later. My lack of knowledge in the early days meant I passed on so many good items. The more you know, the easier picking becomes.

It’s crazy that once you’ve been doing this for long enough you start to realize that you don’t even need to comp most items to know if they are worth buying or not, but the thing that’s been getting on my nerves lately is all of the negativity in the comments section of almost every reseller video. Your videos are the only ones that don’t have a ton of negativity in the comments.

I started eBay almost six years ago to flip a few records to finance my hobby. March of 2020, I quit my job due to the ethics of the company and not wanting to jeopardize my medical licenses. Within the last sixteen months, I’ve pivoted from media to clothing for better margins and better opportunities for growth. With all that being said, I am morphing my company into a larger store [currently 5K, 3K media & 2K clothing]. My end goal is a 7-8K clothing & 2K media store with at least $500/day in sales. I’ll be combining the second and third models to make bank.

If all sellers lowered or stopped promoted listings ebay would lower the recommended. It’s like inflation. It goes up because sellers keep paying more. It’s similar to a multi- level marketing. Ebay is making more money off the downline of resellers.

great video tech! hope people here this loud and clear basically adapt or get left behind. One thing you left out another option not to popular because it involves work but another option is to diversify to other platforms and do face to face sales again like you said we are not living in 1995 when there were basically only 2 options eBay and amazon we are in 2023 eBay is not the be all end all for reselling this is why when i went full time in 98' i diversified from the start on amazon , eBay and back then for those that remember yahoo auctions. now 25 years later im on 10 plus platforms , i have my own website (since 2000) i do face to face sales via FB marketplace and craigslist i also set up at flea markets and at shows you have to use every reselling avenue you can don't put all your eggs into the ebay basket (its a receipt for disaster)

Love to finally have another addition to the Solid Advice with no BS or small talk in the community! It's great ; As to the promoted listings , I don't see us having to give up that much margin and keep racing to the bottom like as Amazon ... I don't feel we will have to do that at all ... Sometimes it's necessary to Promote and other times you can snap a photo of just the tag , List it like as a Draft and then get a sale in 15 minutes ... It all depends on the Keywords optimization the quality of the goods and the photo , but let's be honest we really can't scale a business depending on items like that , we have to take the not as great with the Sub Pars and Anomalies ... I feel like If we Brand ourselves , Source differently ( because the costs are going up too .. almost Double ) . Cross Promote , and Have A diverse inventory of what interests us with A comparable or better Space / Time / Money formula ... And Cross post on multiple Platforms then we will have More audience this way ... And more chances to sell rather than giving up Margins .... But also have an end Game because that's the most important part of it all ... Me personally, I thrive for A Modest Income and Spend my money to buy time .. not use it to Buy more work ...... And as like ng as I can meet my Margin and " Per HR " rate than I don't care if I make double what I paid . Sometimes it pays out exponentially compared to 10X returns while waiting 90 days or Year .....

I'm just small-time, but I would much rather sell more items for less price in times of hardship than less items for more price. It's far easier for me to go to the thrift and grab 20 shirts I'll make $5 on and process them than it is for me to find a single shirt I'll make $100 on. That, and in harder times, people will still be buying the lower-priced stuff. Not too many people looking for Gucci handbags when they're out of work.

I have a thrift "Route" I travel to the farthest point 1:30 hrs away, hit that store drive 30 mins to the next, 20 mins to the next, 15 to the next, then 10 to the final one closet to my house. They are spaced quite a bit, and I live in an area where pickings are slim to me. Growing in knowledge daily, research the solds and specific sections of categories. I may find one 20-30$ profit item after I have hit all the stores likely. I pickup a lot of "Bread and butter" which is basically 7-10$ profit range, but the sell-through is slower, so to push inventory I take 5$ profit. Ebay is a desire, It consumes my days, Ive gotta make it work, I will make it work. Just not sure how people find 20 items a day at 20$ profit in living locations like mine. I suppose they have 50x the knowledge as me and I am just missing them.

I have been reselling for over 12 years, and have accumulated enough inventory to fill my warehouse space of 1200 square feet. I assumed I would do this until I fully retired, whenever that will be. The writing on the wall suggests my days are numbered, so I have decided I'm not going to fight to stay relevant in the future of eBay, so I'm selling off my inventory and buying no more. I am going to niche down to a few categories I enjoy and downsize my footprint significantly. It's not dead yet, but reselling the way I've always done it is on it's way out, and frankly I'm too old to care enough to switch up my game, so I'll slowly bow out while my stuff is still worth something.

What's the best way for a a new re-seller to start "studying" the market? Is there a tutorial or some type of starting guide with the Patreon? I want to spend my time doing the research but I want to spend that time as efficiently as possible.....or should I just go into thrift stores and research items sell through and get my knowledge that way?

59:06 or you can implement a healthy mix of all 3 models nothing wrong with that (Low medium and high volume and low medium and high value items Cater to all buyers) back in 98' before i went full time i got some great advice from a very wise reseller he said get a white board and draw diversification in big letters then draw branches out from the circle and make diversification the center of your business the heart of your business diversify what you source, where you source, where you sell and the price points at what you sell at. this business model for 25 years has never let me down
@technsports
@technsports 10 ай бұрын
The #1 thing people need to focus on, no matter what the model is, is sell through. If you get items that sell through 100% rate you won't need to promote. If you have enough of those to float your business and the other items are your profit, that's fine too. Lots to consider.

@@technsports 100% Tech! lots to think and ponder and every business is different like you said many in your group don't want to scale and that is fine no matter the size you still have to have that Future Plan A B and C like you stated your a business man you have different business and taking emotions out of the the business move eBay made yep as a business man i think its brilliant because there getting HUGE revenue and FREE advertising to there website at the same time do i like it NO do i think its brilliant yes i do....IF they can keep it going into the future (personally i do not see it being a sustainable model) but if they can some how have it stick think about this they have figured out a way NEVER to have to pay for Advertising EVER again i mean that is 1000% brilliant and now what happen in April the sales went off the cliff and then ebay started to really push promoted listings and then you had one incarnation after another of promoted listings till we got to Off Site ads (something eBay had done themselves for over 2 decades sending a daily feed to google for google to index) over night in 2023 they said NOPE that is stopping right now we are now going to make the sellers pay for that Google Advertising i could see in real time because of my website i have do check google shopping daily to make sure my website items are coming up i noticed somewhere in that time frame April-June that LESS and less eBay items were coming up on google shopping and More and More items from other sites like poshmark, mercari, Bonanza and so on even my site comes up a lot more prior to that it was page after page of eBay items and other sites would be sprinkled in. i think once Many sellers of the old guard like who have been on there for 10 15 20 years see and hear that ebay stop doing there job of Promoting there site like they had been for 25 years and now making there sellers do that i really think there is going to be a huge backlash and ive been doing ebay full time since 98' and ive seen my fair share of backlash to ebay regarding fees, and payment methods you could except but i think this is one of the worst things they could do they literally cut off a HUGE advertising avenue (google) where alot of buyers are connected to eBay items and are basically holding that hostage telling sellers if they want there off site google traffic they now have to pay for it. answer

Thank you for your insight! I’m still stumped about researching items. I understand sell through rates, sold vs listed items, using terapeak etc. I use these when I find something at the thrift store and look to see if it’s worth buying. What I would like to know- as it would be a huge time saver - is there a way to research BEFORE leaving the house that would allow me to know what items are worth looking for. I hope that makes sense. I watched lots of bolo videos and it seems like I’ve picked up items in those category and they don’t move the way I thought they would. I live in a large metroplex with a lot of resellers, so I feel like if I knew categories or something it would streamline my sourcing. Thanks for your help ❤!

It is annoying that eBay doesn’t take into account bad buyer behavior or buyer not reading description and giving a bad feedback, but I get it. eBay can set up shop to do their best to be the best selling platform or the can spend millions in supporting sellers resolve their account issues. That’s why there is peer evaluations. It takes these buyer behavior margins into account so it’s apples to apples seller evaluation
@technsports

Yeah the peer to peer evaluation makes it level because if you have annoying things happening so does everybody else

How can one safely judge when the shift becomes a hard fact. If one guesses about this they will be early or late and can get into trouble ... you are predicting a 3-5 year total shift ... I judge that is too generous. Looking at certain niches that have been low margin high volume for decades, won't that work in more than just a few niches. Or does the race to the bottom hasten? I am planning to start selling in the spring... I think that I would engage in the lower margin higher volume method like what Auction Professor has done... many listings with the bulk of his sales low dollar. Thanks for your level headed low voice practical approach.

Familial natural short sleep is a rare, genetic, typically inherited trait where an individual sleeps for fewer hours than average without suffering from daytime sleepiness or other consequences of sleep deprivation. This process is entirely natural in this kind of individual, and it is caused by certain genetic mutations. One of the characteristics is abnormally high focus on goal-directed activities, which sounds very much like Tech. Only about four people out of 100,000 have this genetic disorder. *If you don't have it you are NOT going to be able to work 20 hours per day.* Period.
