❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️ I REALLY enjoyed and connected with Brandy on a personal level! I learned so much from her about being brave and going for it!! I entered my first quilt in my guild's show this past August FOUR DAYS after I had back surgery! Lol! The person who was going to take it wasn't able to at the last minute! I was able to get my next-door neighbor to drive me 15 mins to where the show was, have my grandson carry the bundle and open doors while I scooted along with my walker along the entrance of the civic center finding them!😅 Fortunately it's not a large place and she was waiting on me and I got it in with FIVE minutes to spare!! It's a modern 3D quilt by Ruth Anne Berry that I hand quilted. I wasn't expecting a ribbon at ALL, but I wanted the experience and to see what the judges said I needed to improve on! Well. Wouldn't you know it? A woman was kind enough to collect and take care of my quilt until after my second back surgery 2 weeks later. When we opened the bag, everything was there EXCEPT the judges sheet! Oh well, you gotta laugh... I connected with Brandy on a personal level with her fire PTSD. Except mine was ER. I worked for almost 6 years, which really isn't that long, but it affected my personality, my relationships, what kind of parent I became, and I started drinking too much. There came a tipping point of two traumatic events that happened within a month, one involving a fellow nurse and one an infant about the same age as my youngest. About this time, my grandmother had a stroke and could no longer live on her own, so I volunteered to quit my job, bring her home, and take care of her. During that time I hand pieced and hand quilted my first quilt solo! 🥰 She was my inspiration!!

People like Brandy are one of the main reasons I have gotten into quilting. Not only the calming repetitive "work" (it's not really work to me!), but the quality of the people one meets is truly inspiring. Thank you, Karen!

I have entered quilt shows and agree that the best experience is when you learn something that improves your quilting from the judge. Also, Karen, one of the reasons I love your channel is that you stress the importance honing basic quilting skills, no matter how long you've been quilting. I've been quilting for decades and I still strive to cut well and to sew that perfect 1/4 inch seam.

I am a county fair textile judge. And the takeaways from training are what most quilters already know. I give advice when someone comes to me and asks a specific question. But, it just boils down to, you just don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be better than other entries. A blue ribbon at a county fair, may not even place at a quilt show. Those of you who decide to enter a quilt show after you are finished with your quilt, you may want to rethink that decision. Our educators told us, that if you decide to be in a quilt show, you have to have that mindset when you START the quilt. Placing quality in your work from the get go, may get you better results for the ribbon you have always wanted. And even though I am a judge, I am always learning. 🙂

I so admire Brandy and all emergency services workers. I am a knitter and I understand the benefit of repetitive tasks which are food and hugs for our souls and brains. It’s also important to talk about the impact of stress and beneficial methods of treating it, thank you Brandy. What a treat to hear a tiny part of Brandy’s journey and her enthusiasm for creativity. Many thanks Karen for winkling out these amazing people so we may share a tiny party of their valuable information.

Makes me want to take the quilt I made my niece (for a 13th birthday present this month) and enter it in a show. It is the quilt I am most proud of making so far. Even though I look at it and see where I went wrong 😊 and what I would do differently if I made it again.

Enjoyable and liked her fiery energy! :) After hearing her I may attend another quilt show; attended a state-wide one several years ago when new to quilting and was disappointed to see so many blue ribbons go to extremely traditional quilts -- as if the modern ones were designated as "a cute craft". One of the blue ribbon winners said one of the tricks to winning is to find out who the judges are and make a quilt that appeals to them. This was so unappealing for me to even consider doing. Heading to Brandy's website to check out more now!

I loved this interview. Brandy, You reminded me a lot of your interview with Tula Pink. Karen would ask a Question and you just talked. I love your enthusiasm. The first quilt I submitted in a local fair won first place in my category. Now I’m hooked, I’ve won many ribbons and am still trying to get a quilt accepted in CQA. I’ve learned from the judges comments on every quilt. Thanks again, Both of you.

Thank you! A must watch as far as I'm concerned! I felt inspired and encouraged just to keep quilting, not necessarily judging. She gave some great tips on how to photo your quilts and I'm starting to think about memory quilts. Great interview and terrific personal history. I have a step son in Kelowna who is a brewmaster and another who is a winemaker in Oliver, both born in Ontario! Talent travels! Thanks again! Now time to pull out the next quilt to be quilted; all sandwiched and ready to go!

😁QUILT SHOW CHALLENGE! 😁 Oh wow! I'm catching up on your videos backwards & I JUST heard you say on Jan 3rd that you've never entered a quilt in a show! So. For 2023, I believe that you should challenge yourself to enter a quilt in a show! Maybe your guild's show! Your 4th of July quilt would be great, or I've seen others that are GORGEOUS!! I mean, you don't have to do Quilt Con or Houston, etc. Just something local! If *I* can be brave enough to do it after only quilting 2 years, I **know** you should!

I entered a competition in my local guild and it was judged by viewer's choice. I put a ton of work into it and thought it was really good. It even had glow in the dark thread in the quilting but nobody knew that. I was crushed to not even win a third place. No more competitions for me.

I read a blog sometime ago where the blogger maintained that judges pick out well known quilters to win top prizes as they recognise their style. I'm afraid Brandy got on my nerves. Jennifer continue to enter your quilts in shows someone will judge it fairly. I don't know anyone who quilts. In my country crafts aren't popular.

Other textile concentrations have college level accreditation too being knitting, weaving, spinning in USA, Canada. I found it the spinning discipline a challenge and the growth opportunity’s not for me. I believe those levels are for those who may instruct.
