Adriana *Pale preference & skin whitening has a long history in Asia, stemming back to ancient China and Japan, where the saying "one white covers up three ugliness" was passed through the generations. A white complexion was seen as noble and aristocratic, especially in Southeast Asia, where the sun was always out (CLASSISM). Colorism in the black community on the other hand, originated in America, where bias was born from slavery because slave owners typically gave preferential treatment to slaves with fairer complexions. And through generations has occupied lighter people with privilege + bleaching skin commercials made by whites directed towards Blacks and so on (White Supremacy). Colorism is alive and well in all POC countries that has been colonized by Europeans, but of course countries that practice classism-Colorism is from ancient times and perhaps also influenced by the Eurocentric past.*

It's incredible how skin color is seen in different countries. I constantly feel the need to use some kind of self tanner on my legs because it's too pale and people keep telling me to get a tan and then you have people trying to whiten their skin? And why is it that women always get told to either get a tan or to get whiter? Why can men just walk around putting barely any effort on their appareance. It's a strange world.

Malia Ainura the reason some men can walk around without putting any effort into their looks is because they couldn’t give two shits about how they look. But there are men out there who do care and take just as long as women to get ready. It’s not a sexist issue.
@xAUDREYKITCHING4 жыл бұрын
@@ioncekilledamanwithmyshoe That's not my point, my point is that others, especially families don't put as much pressure onto the males when it comes to skin color etc. I've seen lots of wedding video's where the bride is obviously brown, but they put on a white ass foundation and she just looks like a clown, but then you look at the groom who is 10 shades darker than the bride but that's okay? And I'm not blaming men or anything like that, It's just how certain people and cultures create these kind of situations.

@@Michael-uk3uv Idk if you misunderstood my argument or just slandered it on purpose. I was just talking that Germany has less problems with racism and people giving importance to other people's skin colour than the USA. In Germany there is still room for improvement. I will never understand skin whitening. Dark skin is just as beautiful. I used to be so insecure about my naturally tan skin because I’m Asian & black, and my mom used to be obsessed with wanting pale skin and it clouded my mind that I should have lighter skin too. God I hate beauty standards so much.
@Winxdiamond3 жыл бұрын
You should do what makes you happy :) you’re naturally tan skin is perfect and so are you:) however, I am a Caucasian girl and I only feel beautiful with pale white porcelain skin, as my skin is merely a medium ivory. I don’t feel that attractive with it haha, but that’s how I see myself. I strive for things that make me happy and I don’t base my beauty standards off of what society has told me. I just genuinely want to look like a spoopy little dolllike anime character 🖤

Colourism is different in South Asian society, its not so much a eurocentric thing but more the result of classism and casts, darker skin is associated to poverty and labour work whereas lighter skin is associated with affluence & privilege and therefor is highly desirable, thankfully things are slowly changing x
@rayjays12554 жыл бұрын
@@tahsina.c the whole caste classism thing didn't just spring out of nowhere. It was also from foreign invasion. Just as the ancient aryans conquered the dark Indians that was the beginning of caste and prejudice towards darker skinned people.

@@rayjays1255 that's not what im saying though? I'm just suggesting that theres more to colourism than eurocentricism, and while I'm not denying their influence, it was present before the British empire and colonial settlers. I'm doing my dissertation on colorism and one of my chapters are on skin bleaching, the British colonizers came through to "3rd world countries" and brought their beauty standards which was the victorian period, the era Queen Elizabeth I, painted her face with lead and white vinegar basically to cover up her scars from small pox that she had, also black eyeliner, rosy AF cheeks and pink lipstick/stain. So don' t blame the aunties they don't know any better all you can do is educate em

it’s a little more complicated than that and goes back way further than the english. first of all, it’s nothing i agree with but my grandparents told me (pakistani ethnicity) it’s the idea that if you have darker skin you’re a fieldworker and labourer and lower caste, if you have lighter skin then you stay inside where it’s cool and dark and you’re ‘richer’ and higher caste. that’s the historical deal anyway.

They are not whitening packs lol The face packs basically cleans your skin. For eg: Gram flour removes impurities from skin, Turmeric helps with acne, milk makes the skin soft, milk and honey acts as a moisturiser. Tumeric dos help with inflammation. She's pointing out why its annoying to see people worshipping turmeric for its 'whiteneining" effects and for acne when you and I know it doesn't do that shit. Another misconception is that you really shouldn't be using DIY masks or stuff because it contains a 100% nutritional benefits which may not be suitable for everyone's skin. Its caused worse for me on my skin when I use such DIYs at home.

It HAS an anti inflammatory effect actually, i did a research about it (curcumin)and alot of great effect on health , but whitening? I don't know about that honestly, I remember mom doing a research about it, you need a big amount of active ingredient (curcumin) to have an effect i think 12g(?), and that's imposible to find in a preparation..
