I've always liked to keep the chalk in my pocket when playing. I was forever having to wipe my hands and cue in the middle of frames and over time I've ruined plenty of jeans pocket. I've been using the light green Taom chalk for over a year now and it looks barely used. Saved a fortune on jeans.

On a snooker table I don't think it's a problem because of the nap. The bigger particles rest in the nap and hide, if that makes any sense. Bigger problem on a pool cloth where there is no nap.

It certainly will create a jump on the opposite direction of the nap..I would imagine the cloth becoming too compact if not cleaned properly, and brushing might not do the job, also adding any unnecessary moisture to the cloth from clayish chalk must impact the cloth...15 quid.. Humpty bumpty

I went from triangle to taom light green I like it for the same reasons although it does seem prone to the odd miscue,and it lasts a very long time you don’t need to put any pressure on the tip when chalking so tips last longer to👍

I have been using this chalk for 6 months. I highly recommend it. Even cueing off the Rail I have never Miscued once. Keeping the table clea in the club is a must for me as I do clean 4 tables. So a vested I Teresa really. But,, like you have said,, it needs both players to use it. I am forever swiping the table before and after shots,,it makes no difference, They will never change,, Silly really when my chalk has lasted 6 months and is hardly been excessive wear on the round block. It is expensive, yes,, but I think I will never go back to Dirty Chalk ever again. I chalk every time I cue up . If you do forget, I have tried,,lol... it still lasts at least 3/4 times and never miscued. Would highly recommend the change. Balls are clean as well..100% Happy.

Thanks very much for that Steve. I like the look of the new chalk and will get some. I usually do a lot of straight cueing practice routines at my club which leaves big streaks with the triangle chalk..so the Taom looks a better choice :)

I`m not using the new chalk yet but the only downside for this new chalk is to make sure you use it for every shot more than the old or you get miss cues, i have to keep cleaning my cloth and having many kicks specially on colder days or damp and also the cue gets alot of chalk over the feral & where your bridge hand goes, for the price its worth it to help stop many kicks on positional shots too , great video!

I use this chalk I've had mine about a year and it is less than a sixth of the stick used. The triangle stuff lasted about 6 months per block, playing 4 times per week. I also had to chalk the cue less. I've had one miss cue in the time I have used it and that was because I hadn't chalked the cue for more than 30 shots.

I used this chalk before, but I changed back to Triangle Pro Chalk because brushing the chalk mark of the table helps me calm & focus. I don't know this is the correct idea, the correct mindset.

i'm still using the light green one with shiny bits in it, it really stays on the tip and i find that i dont need to chalk the tip as much as the shiny bits acts like a piece of sand paper and kind of digs into the tip so the chalk stays better

I just wonder why the pros are now using the dark blue colored Pyro Chalk, as that is designed for Pool, which normally has blue cloth. Taom has always had one for pool and snooker of the same series. 2.0 has light green and light blue, Can't remember if they had 1.0 (or whatever they called it) but if they did, they had it as well. And now they have the Pyro and the Soft chalk, Soft having a light green color and gold wrap. They did use the Soft chalk abit some time ago but now they are all using the Pyro. Why?

No. The "chucks" are actually so small they just get squashed by the weight of the ball. You don't really even notice the chalk at all, I've just zoomed right in with the camera. So even the "large" chucks are very, very small.

I've been using the Taom chalk in the gold wrapping and it's very good. The only problem I've found is, to get back spin, I need to make sure I don't hit the cue ball too low and I need a bit more power. Otherwise if I aim low, I'm knocking someone out with the cue ball. 🤣

Hey Steve great video I have watched a few of these videos and it is interesting to see in other videos that you will find you can play about 5 shots if you wanted to before Re chalking the cue ...it is almost a pre shot habit routine to chalk every shot however it seems this is now unnecessary I really like the triangle Pro Chalk I think the tip on the cue can also affect how well the chalk takes to the tip Stay safe

I use this chalk all the time now. To me it appears to have a slightly OILY,feel to it. I don't think it's water mate,I think it would dry out.. But it doesn't matter,,The reason maybe the slightly larger Specs, Could be due to it holding the Tip better, but dies build up on the Tip, Drys off as it isnt the chalk cube.. perhaps a Pricking now and again would taken the dried off chalk, And create even Less Bits coming off the Tip Does this make sense.😃

I take my own set of balls to the club and using Master and Triangle chalk I get the odd stubborn chalk mark on the cue ball and occasionally on some of the other balls. Would using this Taom chalk reduce or eliminate these? Would cut down time spent cleaning the balls before each session if it does. Loving the videos.

@@BartonSnooker I probably will. Just need to know when I'll next be able to play as the club is shut due to being in tier 4. They were open when we were in tier 2 but they said with the lack of alcohol sales it's just not viable to open again until we're in tier 1. Could be months the way things are going.

Examples : look at hawkins before taom, and after. He was crap at backspin (he pokes, doesnt drive through it) so on poor deliveries, which chalk he used didn't bloody matter. Poor cueists will get misscues. Ive used Taom, and Kamui Roku atm. Roku might have slightly more grip (misscue at a certain point, seems more tolerant to deepscrews) but I like both chalks. If people still get misscues with the Roku or 2.0 , it's time to look inwards, and see where your cueaction is flawed.

try the Kamui 0.98 beta chalk in green this is next gen in terms of performance you have more grip and chalk far less often consistency is soft and cakey unsure if its chalk or completely different material however residue may be an issue although you do not need as much for significantly more shots cheers buddy very interesting the blue does not show on green and no kicks being cakey i thought it would stick more to balls

Kamui chalk is garbage, it leaves marked all over the cue ball and table. It also discouraged chalking which IMO is a good pre-shot routine to keep you on pace vs. rushing through shots.

This week I bought Taom Soft, but it hasn't arrived yet. There is some difference between Soft and Pyro or just the color. I saw Kyren, Neil, Higgins using Pyro, but I didn't see anyone using Soft. Is Pyro better than Soft?

I’ve tried both. I play pool and the snooker chalk works much better. I prefer the 1.0 version but the 2.0 works just as well. I just like the 1.0 since it is more gritty and I like the sound. When I started using the pyro is when I started getting kicks again

@@jama211 source of Williams's comment on this? would like to hear it, because intuitively @Nigel's question makes a lot of sense to me. although now that i think of it i could imagine that firstly the toam 'clumps' are too small to affect travel in any measurable way, and then also that while normal chalk trails will not 'knock' a ball of course, it would interfere with judging the cue ball path. a spinning cue ball would definitely behave differently when its crossing over a section of cloth where chalk is affecting the friction coefficient, the question is just how much. *edit=typo

I love this chalk and got to use it with Steve on my lesson but my first shot I took I had a massive kick. 😂. I don't think you're ever gonna get rid of kicks and bad contacts but I do hate the green chalk how it gets everywhere and I always end up blowing the tip of my cue cause it feels like there is too much chalk on there.

mixing chalk has weird effects imo after a few hours that can change , same with first shots i feel like static or charge and atmospheric effects like layers of condensation disappear after balls have run for a bit. If you only play once a week or so then I can imagine this chalk lasting a very long time! I'd love to see a video on elbow positioning and how important you think it is. So I often feel like mine flares out a bit and may be the cause of not hitting the white as intended.

I play matches and practice at least 3-4 times a week. I’ve been using the same piece of Taom 2.0 chalk for almost a year now, you literally only have to brush it on the tip and because of its clay like texture it fully covers the tip. I could potentially play 3 shots before I need to chalk again, baring in mind if you’re striking below centre I would advise chalking beforehand.

My opinion after using the same one for a good 6 to 8 months at least: 1-I play and practice for about 10 hours every week and it's used for about 15% to 20% so it's definitely extremely durable. 2-Very rare kicks and miscues. 3-As you said it does leave extremely small chunks on the cloth, but never big enough to impact balls trajectory, so not an issue at all. 4-Sorry to correct you Steve, but the light green one is not a past version, especially now that Taom currently sells snooker chalk 2.0 in that color. In fact, they sell many versions for pool or snooker. The pyro one is kind of an all-in-one version. The one I got is light green snooker chalk 2.0. My take, for what it's worth. I would save your money and stick to triangle or master chalk. Taom at around £15 is simply over priced. Whilst it may work on new cloths or if you are lucky enough to have your own table, but for club tables which are played on by many different players, the chalk gets embedded into the cloth and no amount of using taom will stop you getting kicks on an older cloth. I clean tables at my club and am very thorough. Conditions and atmospherics are far more bigger causes for kicks and cushion bounces.

I must admit I do like the fact that I don't feel like I have to wipe the table after every screw shot. But it's a lot of money to pay just for that 😄

Having used this chalk for an extended period now, the benefits are: 1) clean table 2) no kicks The chalk also lasts well over a year with regular play. So it doesn't work out expensive at all.

those specs can change the direction of the ball. they are that big of a lumps. I though there was something weird about the hype, and those lumps are a good enough reason to pass this product. It might create a better friction, but the chalk is forming game altering boulders of gipsum. Nope.

They're very very soft pieces of chalk. The weight of the ball would just crush them absolutely no problem. Also remember my camera is zoomed right in, so they look bigger on video than they actually are. As I say, I couldn't even notice them at all at first. I'm not telling anyone to get this chalk, it's ok for keeping the table clean, but that's it really. But the little specs of chalk would do nothing to the direction a balls goes in, they're just way to soft and small.

I've played on tables that resemble more a gravel road than a pool table, but a snooker ball is so small, and the fast cloth is so smooth, that those particles will come to play. Just when you need a slow, smooth, accurate shot, a henge of chalk appears on your path. a flash of dust makes almost no difference. It can alter your massé, but not much else. And then again, cleaning the table is not just for the looks. It's to maintain a fair, even playground for both players. Hiding these clay pebbles under a color is unsportsmanlike behavior. Soft at first, but clay nevertheless. when the softening compound is evaporated they are hard as rocks. And any particle that comes in contat wih a rolling ball, has an effect on the ball's directory. Can that alteration change the result of the shot? Absolutely yes. Laws of physics and math cannot be denied.

But at the end of the day if the trajectory of the ball was materially affected in the pro game don't you think they would have called it out by now just like kicks? They have 4 and 8 frame sessions on superfine cloths under studio (drying) lights and they play plenty soft shots and are far more fussy about conditions.

I believe it's good chalk, but for me as a normal club player there are other things to improve first, and I don't like to support companies who are trying to rip off their customers. The price is way too high for chalk. Although on professional level every small thing matters. It's also good to keep the table clean.

Yeah you're right. It all comes down to what important for the individual. It's a lot of money, and won't give any improvement in terms of you playing the game. It's purely just to keep my table to a high standard for longer, so it's worth it for me. If you're just playing down a club, it doesn't matter.

The price seems abusive. The only comparison that is made is with the original Triangle chalk, but my feeling is that the Triangle Pro is a great improvement on the original. In any case, I suspect Taom chalk is the best chalk available and if it eliminates miscues then it will allow you to play better, although only marginally. For me it is only the cost that stops me buying: I don't like being had.

You won't care whether there are marks on the club table (not as if you are not going to brush it when you finish your game anyway) and 2. £15 vs 50p is an absolute rort. I'd bet with the increased demand they could sell more and make more money lowering the price which in turn would increase demand again. You see where I'm going with this? There is obviously a price point v profit

@@alecspyrou2134 I brush and nap before every session regardless, I respect the tables even though others don't. I find masters grips the ball fractionally better than triangle although the peradon Pro is even better but at 2.50 a block its pricey. Also the very fact that if both players aren't using the taom it negates the kicks and miscues unless I use it in practice I don't see the justification of 15 nicker! And yes I see your point re pricing/demand but they're cornering the market.

@@qstar6407 I also brush and block before and after. Unless Taom lasts 30 times more than Triangle then we can't use the length of time Taom lasts for as a positive. So all that remains is less kicks. I believe there is lots of chalk out there that will reduce kicks at a fraction of the cost of Taom

I find that Russian magic chalk really leaves a lot of marks on the cue ball. Stopped using it.
