At 33 years old my best friend went in to the OB to verify her pregnancy. During the exam they found a lump in her breast, the next day had a biopsy and she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She was not quite 8 weeks pregnant, they immediately scheduled a double mastectomy, and she was on chemo her entire pregnancy. Once she had the baby she immediately started radiation with the chemo. I'm happy to report she is in remission now, and has been cancer free for about 3 years. Everyone please know this can happen to anyone, do your self exams and see your doctor for your yearly checkups. Thank you so much Cullen and Katie for allowing this outlet to bring awareness and a way for people to donate to an amazing cause. Much love from Marysville Washington.

I'm so glad you guys didn't give up on the potty training. Everytime I read a comment about her not being ready I just rolled my eyes bc even in the 15 or so minutes a day we see you guys I could tell she was ready and she nailed it! Good work by all!!!

Also just wanted to say that my older son also had a hard time going potty at daycare right after he was potty trained and he was even older than Gaines but he eventually got past it and I'm sure she will too!

Same here! She was totally ready!
@flj78 жыл бұрын
I don't get how people were saying she wasn't ready! Cullen and Katie both said she was starting to reject the diapers and getting annoyed with them, which is a pretty clear indication of being ready.
@katiebarrera28618 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I think just bc she had a few accidents and is still pretty young people thought she wasn't ready but Gaines has always been advanced at almost everything.
@flj78 жыл бұрын
Katie Barrera Accidents are just part of potty training! I think some people assume "ready" means that the child identifies their need to go immediately and acts on it. It takes a lot of work from both the parents and the child to get toilet training down solidly.

Very, very cool of you guys to be a HUGE voice for your friend's cause. I love the "real men wear pink" slogan, too! My son is on his school's 7th grade FB team. On the 8th grade team, one of the mom's has breast cancer & all treatments have failed. There is an experimental treatment that is going to be her last effort to heal, but it is VERY expensive. The school decided to run a fundraiser for her at one of the home games. They had a bake sale at the concession stand, had multiple raffles going & of course donation boxes. All of the kids decided on their own to "pink out" the stadium for that game. I was never more proud of my son than I was that day. He is such a "boy" & to see him wearing the brightest pink shirt we could find & asking for extra money to donate, just put a huge smile on my face. Real men DO wear pink.. & I'm glad he's learned that lesson at such a young age. I broke down in tears when I went to pick him up. The team playing were all wearing pink socks & there was a sea of people exiting the stadium, men, women & children of ALL ages decked from head to tow in pink. It's amazing what a community can do!! I wish you guys the best of luck in this fundraiser. I hope it EXCEEDS the $5k mark & surprises us all!

My aunts have also suffered from different cancers. It leaves me worried for my future with my own children. Cancer is an ugly ugly disease and it discriminates against no one! My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer (the very bad kind) in 2013. She is only in her 40s. She had a double mastectomy and chemotherapy to follow for quite a few weeks. I am happy to say that she has been cancer free for three years and is doing great. I pray everyday that God will keep his healing hand on my mom. I don't know what I would ever do without her. This is one of the scariest things my family has ever had to go through. I will be wearing pink every day all month long in support for my mom and anyone who has/had breast cancer. This cause is very close to my heart. I am only 26 and will soon have to start being checked every year for possibly any signs that I have developed cancer, and I have an 18 month old daughter as well that will have to be checked sooner than later. Cancer is such a scary word!

Fighting for better research and cures is important to me for both these illnesses, I would never want anyone to go through this. Positive thoughts to anyone who is suffering from some sort of illness. You aren't weak because you cry or have trouble doing things. I feel so bad about what happened to Gaines at school. I used to work for a Daycare/Preschool program. I was the lead teacher for the Toddler's 18 months- 2 1/2 years. We had a Toddler preschool program from 9-12pm thus some kids came half day and others full day. If we had a child who wanted to try underwear for the day we would give them 3 strikes and then out then we would put on a pull-up. They should have put underwear back on her, the last thing you want to do is embarrass or traumatize a child. I am sure they meant well but I still feel bad.

My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, my brother is a neuroblastoma survivor, and my grandpa has melanoma, so cancer kind of runs in our family. This cause is very close to home. Just donated!

My sorority's philanthropy is breast cancer awareness and education and we have these wonderful workshops every month about breast health and ovarian health and it's really super eye opening!! 1 in 8 women is way too many!!

My mother just got diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time a week ago and this time it wasn't in her breast it spread to her bones and blood so now it's in her sacrum. It's hard because she was so happy that she survived it the first time and now to find out she has it again and it's in her bone there's not much the doctor can do if it spread to her bone. It's sad because ever since she found out a week ago that she has breast cancer again it's been hard for her to sleep because all she thinks about is if she's going to be here next year and I hear her crying loudly and all I hear her say is "why me, why does this happen to me, I haven't done anything to deserve this" When I hear her say that I just break down because I'm only 19 years old I'm not ready to lose my mom yet and I had a son 4 months ago and I don't want him to grow up without a grandma. My mother has already had cancer 3 times and it's depressing to find out that she has cancer for the 4th time.

Katlin Dahl I'm so sorry this is happening to your family. Your mom doesn't deserve to go through that time and time again. Praying that she she'll be ok and that everyone stays strong.
