Ella was also one of the producers for this show actually. She said she's more nervous about what people think about this show than any of her previous roles because she actually had involvement in the show behind the scenes too and not simply in front of the camera.

AJ never comes off as nepo-baby or schmuck or dickhead. He is nothing but sympathetic and supportive from the second he first appears on screen. He is the only character in episode one who doesn't treat Rhiannon like crap. But she sees him that way throughout the first half of the show, I think the point is probably to show us, that she assumes the worst in people, even when they are nothing but nice.
@Ash-pr2ws

Reminds me of the movie Chronicle. In the movie, the main character has the same problem. It's hard to believe that there are people who are genuinely nice to you when you see people behaving badly towards you most of the time.

I think she also doesn't really know what to do with AJ exactly *because* he is the only one treating her nicely. She has no experience with not being walked over, being overlooked, so when AJ treats her with respect and kindness, she goes "???" and her brain just automatically categorizes it as threatening because that is what her experience has been so far

i definitely agree with you with AJ's character the way he sees Rhiannon it's as if they're in sync like he knows and can tell what she's feeling or thinking which is very satisfying to witness as a viewer also the way he moves even when he's not entirely focused into a particular scene is very interesting because he's still watching out or on the look out or Rhiannon

In the book AJ haunts Rhiannon’s dreams, I hope they include them to get more scenes between Ella and Calam because their chemistry was fantastic. There’s another Rhiannon and AJ aspect from the second book (huge spoiler so I won’t say) which I’m wondering if they’ll keep for season 2.

@dizzlegrizzle1919 Firstly, why did you click on a SPOILER VIDEO for a show if you have not watched it? Secondly, comments under a spoiler video can have... you guessed it... SPOILERS. If you watched the video, you would know that this show is a prequel to the events of the book, which I have not read FYI (since you asked). EDIT: Marshall referred to the show as a prequel but it actually isn't because... do you want more spoilers? Well anyway, it covers things from the first book (which I found out from another spoiler comment).

The whole Julia character is the one that feels the most off to me. The acting, the character’s storyline etc. I didn’t like how they abruptly turned her character around from being the villain to wanting us to sympathize with her within the span of like 30 mins. Other than that every other aspect of the show was great.

except thats exactly how rhiannon saw her. if you really look at it, at the end of the day all julia did to her was mock her during school. which was when they were all kids about 8 years ago. everything else julia “did to her” was just rhiannon needing someone to blame for everything bad happening to her, and thats all she was to rhiannon till she found out about her father. she wasnt human to rhiannon before that

They did it to give Riannon a reason to not kill her, in her mind a person deserves to die if they are a bully/bad person, that's why she tried to get more info on the guy she killed because if he was bad, it's almost like she did a good deed. Julia might be a bad person but what Marcus does to her would also make her a victim

By no means am I writing off the season as a whole, as it does make a good watch and I did enjoy it. However, it is NOT a prequel set before the events of the book - a lot of characters aren't developed nearly enough, most are actually changed entirely and the justification to how/why Sweetpea is the way she is just isn't explored. It's definitely still worth a watch for sure, but (not to be that person) the books are definitely better as so much is missing/changed 😅

When I looked up the trailer for this show and see that Ella is playing a serial killer, I was already sold. I also laughed when I saw people nicknaming Ella the Okey Dokey killer. In a way, Ella's character is basically the untold story how Cooper Howard from Fallout went from nice actor who won't even fake kill a guy on a movie set to no issues blowing a bunch of people up for real.

@kel2880 this is pretty disappointing, I watched an interview before filming where Ella referred to her character as “sweetpea”, so I assumed that was okay I’m willing to check myself but at the end of the day I made a video excited about a show that had a female audience in mind, and comments like “he’s just a man” is absurdly discouraging, like I’m doing my best Ironically for comments calling out sexism it indulged in that behaviour rather quickly
@kel2880
@kel2880 2 ай бұрын
@@marshallstannus I get where you’re coming from, and I respect that you were following what you thought was fair game. I realize my comment was crude, but my point is that even with good intentions, men (and women too) can still reinforce those dynamics without realizing it. Sexism relies on power dynamics within the patriarchy, which means it only works in one direction. You can’t be sexist towards men because they aren’t on the receiving end of that systemic oppression. So I do apologize for being rude, but to complain that us commenters are creating a sexist environment towards you as a man is wrong and a misuse of the word.
@LegendOfYuka
@LegendOfYuka 2 ай бұрын
@@kel2880Sexist can only lead in one direction? I’d like to break your very false and dangerous ideal of the world by telling you that yes, it can go both ways. As a black man in the states who has experienced racism I myself know that I can be racist towards someone else no matter if the “patriarchy” supports the white man more. Hatred can go both ways no matter the term, if you as a woman lower a man simple because he is a man than yes, that is sexist and it works the other way as well. Please, educate yourself before spreading such dangerous nonsense especially if that nonsense affects other people that have experienced sexism. Thank you have a blessed day and find God, Amen.
@kel2880
@kel2880 2 ай бұрын
Sure, hatred can go both ways, but not sexism. The reasons for men and women’s hatred towards the opposite gender are vastly different. Men hate women because they view us as inferior to them. THAT is sexism. Women hate men BECAUSE of thousands of years of intergenerational abuse and trauma at the hands of men. We hate them because we want them to stop terrorizing our mothers and sisters, defending abusive men, and promoting toxic masculinity. THAT is a reaction to men's sexism. Sure, our reactions to misogyny might not always be nice or pretty. But it is NOT sexism. And don’t say ‘violence can go both ways.’ I know that men can be victimized by women too, which is a problem, but it’s around 2% of cases compared to the 98% of violent crimes that are perpetrated by men. The patriarchy doesn’t just benefit men a little more than women-it SOLELY serves to benefit men. You should recognize, as a black man, that a white person being racist to a black person is absolutely NOT the same as a black person calling a white person a cracker or something. It doesn't carry the same weight because of historical and societal context. Same goes for sexism.

I was bullied and i took it badly after high school, i didnt leave my house for over a year and hated myself but dealt with it, she kept blaming julia when she didnt cause her dog to die, or her dad to die. The show is great but *spoiler* the last episode is really moralistic, very judgemental. It feels like someone tried to extend the ending so the show could have a season 2. By the end of the episode 5 and the begin of the 6, the story arcs are complete, the characters made the full journey and are completely different from the beginning, them the writer decided the story needed a season 2 and she should be explicitly revealed as morally corrupt.

I have a few problems as Sweetpea goes on. I absolutely love the show and I am glad you are covering it. It is not being covered by too many people (if any) at all. There have been a couple of reviews but no analyses, and I was hoping there would be like a lot of other shows I watch. So, I found it way too convenient and irritating that Julia's husband is portrayed as an abuser. He came off more like Julia was an abuser (also much more likely considering how she speaks to and treats everyone). I was sure she was lying so that Sweetpea would feel sorry for her and let her go. I have a hard time believing Julia is the victim, even tied up and threatened she is still horrible to Sweetpea. She would have been my first to go as would that idiot in the convenience store as well as Seren. I feel like Sweetpea is an out of control Dexter - she has no real regard for covering her DNA or evidence. I can't discern what, if anything, she is really thinking. Almost like she is just committing crimes of opportunity, rather than her Kill List. Or were they getting her primed for what she had to do? At first, I didn't really consider that Sweetpea is really only killing men, and tbh, that is disappointing to me (as a woman). I feel like women do such serious damage to each other, and I don't want this to be a male bashing show. I have read the spoilers for the last episodes, and I am pretty sad about the ending of season 1.

This actually seems like it’s very critical of feminism. Now a days it’s hard to know if people are that self aware. Dropping male characters for petty reasons and saying man spreading unironically is probably enough for most people.
