Today’s guest, Hannah Kelly, regularly buys and sells previously loved quilts on her website, Stitched and Found. She does an amazing juggling act between her business, her photography business and mother to three young sons. I had so many questions and she generously answered them all. So grab your sewing and a cup of tea and enjoy

Great interview, thank you. I recently made a list of all the quilts I own, some from family as old as 1927 to quilts I’ve made then I typed list with makers name, date, city and occasion for quilt and spaced each one like a label. I printed the pages and took them to my local printer and he prints them on fabric and I’m in process of labeling every quilt I own. I label every new quilt I make. It is such a warm feeling to look at a quilt, turn it over and read the label: Ethel Adelia 1927 Stapleton, Nebraska; thank you Ethel for this lovely quilt, it’s a treasure! Karen, thanks for all you do! Blessings, Dawn

My friend had a couple of old quilts that needed fixing but didn't know anyone to fix them for the decade or know the fabric to choose. Anyway she ended up cutting them up into miniature Christmas stockings to hang on the fireplace. So cute.

Hi! I love all your videos including your interviews…but so far she is my very favorite. I, too, didn’t think my quilts were worthy of labeling but she and you have convinced me to make sure every quilt has a label, even those I keep for myself. Thank you, Karen!

My aunt was really on the ball. She managed to get 3 flimsys that were made by her husband's grandmother. She got them quilted and I made the labels with the name of the quilter and approximate date. It was my aunt's persistence that they will go not forward as unknowns. 19:41

Great topic. I know a lady that is very private. She is a wonderful quilter. She will not put her name on anything. She will not have her obituary published she is so private. Her family will have to make a photo diary of her quilts. I recently began to make labels and a photo diary for my quilts. My friend has quilts in quilts from her Aunts and great Aunts. Beautiful appliqued quilts. She treasures them and takes good care of them.

Loved the interview Karen. I have a quilt that one of my Aunt's gave me that her sister also my Aunt made and it's very heavy. She hand quilted it and the batting was of cotton. Her husband was a farmer and I remember as a young child that he had planted cotton. He showed us how to pick it and the cleaning of the seeds and trash from it. I know some of it in the quilt had bunched up. I hope all this makes sense. ❤❤

I donated my grandmother’s hand stitched wedding quilt, a grandma’s flower garden to the museum in the town she was born, raised and lived. The quilt was created by her, future, mother-in-law. The quilt; hardly used, stored in a hope chest, and in pristine condition was created in 1920. I do wish I had created a label for the quilt, but the museum curator has all the information. If you are concerned about a quilt having insects, an overnight stay in a freezer will kill even the toughest bug.

That was SEW interesting to listen to. I'm an avid thrifter in Ottawa, Ontario and I rarely come across older quilts. I always have my eye open for Feedsack fabrics. Perhaps Canadians hold on tighter to their quilts due to colder weather? On Instagram they seem abundant in the US. Do you find this in Toronto as well, Karen?

This was a fun interview! I love vintage quilts! I have my own vintage treasure that I bought at an estate sale for $25. It was pretty nasty and HEAVY. I soaked it in the tub in oxiclean for hours. Once I got to handling it, I could see that it was so heavy because it had a whole other quilt inside! It is also made from, I assume, fabric samples. It is all rectangles with sashing in between them. The rectangles all have 2 holes the size of a paper punch in the top two corners. I am assuming they had rings through them for flipping through.

From someone who lives in Appalachia, I just wanted to let you know that it is a ch, almost like I'm going to throw an Apple at cha ( also pronounced like the word chuck without the ck) not a sha. No worries, seems like lots of people get it wrong. I'm from the mountains of western North Carolina. Really enjoyed this interview and it was nice to hear from a relative neighbor ( Tennessee and North Carolina share a border) .
