I have a question about the favouritism and inconsistency of the community. Stipe’s last win was in August 2020 against DC, his last fight was in March 2021. Yet nobody had the same energy for Stipe that they do for Ortega who has fought more recently than Stipe. Also Stipe has had his immediate rematch when he lost to DC then rematched him, yet everyone was ok with him fighting for the belt before tom became interim. So can Izzy fight Dricus without issue? No everyone has said he doesn’t deserve another title shot. Secondly, Moreno hasn’t fought 7/9 of the top 10, so he hasn’t cleared the division, he’s lost 3 times to the current champion, he’s had 6 title fights since 2020 including an interim and hasn’t defended successfully once. How can Moreno deserve a title shot without even getting 2 wins?

Compared to Aldo, Volk got his record changed because he went up and fought top 1 or 2 most dominant fighters in that division, if not ever. If Volk didn’t fight Islam he would have a better record. As far as opponents go, Volk’s record wipes the floor with Aldo’s.

As a spaniard, I want to put some light on Ilia and what he means in Spain. Ilia is likely not playing a character, he is extremely cocky. He has been interviewed by Jordi Wild, a guy with a podcast which is heavily inspired on Rogan's. He is not humble at all. He looks like a very genuine person, but cocky af. Second, I've been following the sport since the early 2000's, when K1 and Pride were the top two fighting promotions and Japan was the fighting capital of the world. Fighting sports have always been very niche in Spain until now. Everybody was asking me about Ilia after the fight. Even my sister texted to ask me. She has not watched a single fight in her life. Just my two cents.

This is how life goes. I guess I’m actually old now as I’m realizing it and watching it happen in real time. Generations move on. Ilia is young strong and hungry…improving with each fight (experience counts) til the point comes where experience and physicality meet. After that moment, experience continues but physicality drops off. Damage becomes accumulated and the wheels eventually fall off. Ilia has a few strong years ahead of him as I don’t see anyone on the horizon at 145 to beat him. Everyone that is being mentioned is older and on the down side of their careers. Vol won’t ever “come back” and beat him. Ever. And we need new contenders with fresh bodies and minds to step up.
