I’m a university student in America, and Wallahi, not a single person on campus cares if I have a beard or not, which I never had until recently. My father (I’m from a Bengali Muslim family) telling me to trim it, despite the fact that I keep in clean and in shape. There’s actually another Hadith which is Hasan, saying the prophet ﷺ wouldn’t look at 2 men who didn’t have beards. You can trim the beard if you put it in your fist. Whatever comes out of your fist you can cut that. This is based on the sahabi Abdullah ibn Umar (may ALLAH be pleased with him) who used to do this. However though the best opinion is to never make it shorter.

@@AgMak actually imam syafi'i in his book al-umm didn't say it haram. He said laa yajuz which means "not allowed". From here came the differences amongst the scholars in shafii madzhab. But since imam rafii and imam nawawi (two biggest scholars in shafii madzhab) said that laa yajuz by what imam syafi'i meant was makruh and not haram, therefore this opinion is considered mu'tamad in shafii madzhab. Because in other parts of the book, when imam syafi'i said laa yajuz, he didn't mean haram, but makruh.

This is the wording of Muslim] Meaning of the Hadīth: A Muslim is required to trim his mustache and not let it untrimmed for over forty days, as reported by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): "We were given a time limit with regard to trimming the mustache, shaving the pubic hairs, plucking the armpit hairs and clipping the nails. We were not to leave that for more than forty days." In another Hadīth: "Whoever does not trim his mustache is not one of us." So, a Muslim should trim his mustache, either until the whiteness of the skin appears or just removing the part going beyond the lip, which may touch food. As for growing the beard, this includes the hair of the face and on the area of the jawbones. Growing here means letting it grow long and thick and not cutting it at all - as indicated in many Hadīths. Shaving the beard is not haram in Islam, so beard is just a recommendation of the prophet Muhammad عليه الصلاة والسلام because the Prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام didn’t say Haram in the hadeeth, that’s what I learnt and if something is haram in Islam, it must have clearly a text in the Quran or in the sunnah with the mention HARAM OR IJTINAB, that’s it. Allah is ARAZZAK this is an evidence, but why do you use the deen and ask people to support you with giving you money? Is it halal ? When All compagnons of the prophet went to madeenah, they refused that someone helped them and asked Ahlu AlMadeenah the place of the market (دلّوني على سوق المدينة ) because the compagnons of the Prophet knew very well the meaning of التوكّل على الله, so askinig people for money is not a honest job.

English is not my mother’s language, so I’ll respond to you in Arabic. يا أستاذ يا متخلّق، قال رسول الله صَلَّى الله تعالى عليه وسلّم: «خالفوا اليهود والنصارى»، السؤال: كيف نخالفهم في اللحية وهم أيضًا يطلقونها ؟ الجواب : نقصّ الشارب، لكن إعفاء اللحية مطلوب بمعنى recommended ليس فرضًا، ومن يحبّ الله ورسوله يقتدي بسيدنا محمد صَلَّى الله تعالى عليه وسلّم. فنحن المسلمين، محبّةً في رسول الله واقتداءً به نطلق اللحية، ونعتني بها ليس إلّا تشبّهًا به صَلَّى الله عليه وسلّم. وعند العرب في عهد رسول صَلَّى الله تعالى عليه وسلّم وقبل بعثته، اللحية كانت رمز الرجولة والشهامة. ولو كانت واجبًا مثلها مثل الصلاة أو ركنًا من أركان الاسلام لقال رسول الله صَلَّى الله تعالى عليه وسلّم أنّها فرضًا. يا استاذ، الإسلام دين رحمة وليس دين مشقّة حتى يُفرضَ علينا أمورًا مثل اللحية. أمّا في ما يتعلّق بكلمة beggar ، فحسب ما قرأت السلف الصالح وعن العلماء المتقدّمين، فإنهم لم يتاجروا الدّين ، بل كانت لهم تجارة، وأضرب لك مثال بالإمام أحمد ، كان يطلب العلم استجابة لرغبة أمّه ، ولم يطلب من عند تلامذته اشتراكا يوميًا او شهريًا، بل كان يسترزق من إيجارِ محلٍّ تركه له أبوه ولم يمدّ يده أبدًا إلى غير الله. أمّا إذا كتب الله عليك الفقر ليبتليك فلا مرادّ له إلّا هو سبحانه. والسلام على من اتبع الهدى.

That should mean that the beard shouldn't be cut at all if Rasulullah SAW asked to leave it. But, maybe our interpretation can be wrong, but not of Sahabas. Isn't there a hadith that says that Abdullah Ibn Umar RA used to cut his beard after it became a fistful. May maybe, fistful is the limit after which you can cut the beard. Otherwise, many people, like the brother in the video, have a short beard, length of a finger! So minimum is a fistful of beard. Al-Bukhaari (5892) narrated: When Ibn ‘Umar did Hajj or ‘Umrah he would take hold of his beard and would trim any excess.

What’s funny is that my name is Muhammed and I do have a scruffy beard after months of leaving it and was contemplating shaving it, after this video I was reassured to keep following the Sunnah of An-Amanj (S.A.W.)

Well you should take care of it our prophet did not say “don’t take care of your beard” he didn’t say “let it grow messy and face the hardships of life”

@@sologamer8287 taking care of it is Ofc good. And you should do that. What you shouldn’t do is shave it. And the sunnah is not to trim it at all as the Prophet صلی الله عليه وسلم never trimmed his beard, only his mustache. Also, when you’re a teen you have to charge having a scruffy beard for a while and be patient with it until your beard grows out. It’s only natural.

Here in Nigeria when U apply for any of the Nigerian force e.g police, army, navy, custom, road savety officer, emigration or fire service officer . ETC U must remove the beard.
