simple mind guidance trick- two principles it works on: First of all- the most popular shapes are a triangle, square and circle. secondly, human nature is to try and outsmart the game- human nature will try and guess what the mentalist isn't thinking- that makes us predictable. All it takes now it to imply or project what the you as the magician is thinking, subliminally. ok, he says " a shape like a square but not a square"- eliminating a square, then to be safe, he draws a rectangle with his hands- people will then avoid that shape subconsciously thinking- 'oh he's thinking that shape'. that leaves a triangle - as most peoples first choice, as people will automatically think of a similarly angled shape- (but not a square) he clearly guides you to a triangle. Once the first suggestion is made ,and the person is thinking something, its much easier to now throw obvious suggestion. He say 'now project another shape'- he feintly suggests a circle with his hands, then says the words - put it "a-ROUND" the other shape- what else- a circle! (he also uses a lot of round sounding words here to hammer it home) when he says - 'heres the fun part'- thats all just showmanship crap to distract from the work he s already done on us- and to allow the ideas to consolidate. Basically the mind goes- "avoid his first suggestion, I'm outsmarting him, i think I'm making this second choice"- (but actually he s guided it- making us think we re choosing). The trick is to keep things moving and fluid so the player dosent have time to go to a third choice. very simple mind tricks , but that can be made complex to really fuck with people- literally.

With regards to the hand-draw-in-air rectangle, more than causing us to want to outsmart the mentalist I think it, like when he says "a square but not a square", takes away the rectangle as an option. Who is going to put a rectangle on a rectangular plane?

@@FindTheMasterpiece If it was a well constructed story I would have agreed with you. However, the show hadn't even decided that Red John was Thomas here until well past season 3 iirc. So as far as we are concerned, this Thomas is not Red John. Which kinda reflects how poorly the reveal went.

Dancedizzler I can almost guarantee that Red John was originally going to be Brett Partridge, which made the first episode perfect. Unfortunately, the internet figured that out pretty quickly. The Sheriff was a terrible choice - one which I imagine they made after fans figured everything out

I still think Red John should've been Walter Mashburn, you know how interesting that would've been seeing as Lisbon slept with him? It would also make sense in the story of how he didn't just kill her, of course they should have had him shake hands with him to make him fit into the list. Not only that they would've been saving Red John's life without knowing it multiple times on their second and last case including him. Walter had plenty of money, resources and connections along with his charismatic charm.

Incorrect Bender. Naturally most people picture those two as a shape. When he says "Except a square" that pretty much narrows it down to a triangle. It works on most people if you just ask them to do it without all the stuff he did.

The shape trick is in fact very easy. I do it all the time and it always works. The trick is in the gestures you make with your hands. When you talk about imagining the first shape, you move your hands in a open shape of a triangular. Then, when you talk about the next shape, you form a circle with your hands. By doing that, a persons subconsciounce will automatically think of that shape. It's pretty easy, really, and Lisbon didn't stand a chance. The 'print the shape into the back of my mind'

The rock paper scissor game is awesome if you think about it. Jane is reading red john on what he pick, but at the same time red john is reading Jane on what he pick.. So in the end red john is kinda reading himself and adjusting on picking right choice just so Jane could win. It's już brilliant.

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. - A La Junta man died after he and his passengers were ejected during a crash. It happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in Otero County. The Colorado State Patrol reports the driver, Angel Quintero, 40, of La Junta, was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 when he lost control on a curve. The truck went off the right side of the road, and the driver over-corrected, causing the truck to spin and roll three times. Quintero, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected along with both of his passengers. Quintero was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers, Brittanee Rhoades, 23, of Green Mountain Falls, and Matthew Martinez, 31, of La Junta, were sitting in the bed of the truck when they were thrown from the vehicle. Rhoades was flown to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Martinez went to the Arkansas Valley Hospital. Troopers say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. They're still investigating. Now There's no photos or evidence of a vehicle Crash involving Brittanee Rhoades
