Rapunzel Cosplay Tutorial

Hope this helps you in building your own Rapuznel cosplay from Tangled! Below are rough estimates of the amount of materials I used , sorry it's not exact as its been a while since I've built that (if the half boxed up house wasn't a clue enough lol)
Materials:
1 yd twill
1 yd floral embroidered cotton
6 yds lavender taffeta
2 yds pink taffeta
4 yds pink cotton jersey
4 yards lace
1 spool of pink ribbon
48 2 part grommets (and grommet setter)
1 yd elastic
1 yard grosgrain ribbon
Appliques ( I got about 60 of each kind (3 styles) but it still wasn't enough to go all around the hem)
2-3yds flat steel boning

Hi! I'm not trying to criticize or anything. I just want to give some input, if that's okay. I love your tutorials! You are incredibly talented! I really appreciate all of the time and effort that you put into making videos. Thank you for showing us your process so that other people can figure it out as well. I just wanted to suggest maybe turning the background music down or eliminating it all together? I have a lot of trouble processing and focusing when there is too much contrasting noise going on because of my ADHD, and I know that it's not an uncommon issue. I can get by okay turning off the sound and reading the subtitles, but then I have to rewind a lot because then it's difficult to read subtitles and see what's going on at the same time. I know a lot of people who have the same issue. I'm sorry if I'm out of line with my suggestion in any way.

Oh I feel your struggle I got the bodice fabric at Joanns like 4 years ago and the rest from the LA fabric district. I'm currently awaiting shipment of fabric for a new version and I feel the pain of finding suitable fabric. I'll be sure to include shopping tips in the new video. For now I recommend looking at white pink or lavender embroidered cotton fabric on Ebay and fabric websites, that you can dye with rit dye to the right shade. For the skirt, this was a faux taffeta which is easy to find on Ebay. This time I'm going for a silk taffeta that is both pink and lavender. Definitely more expensive but worth it because I'm so passionate about getting this costume right. For the bodice strength layer, just some twill from Ebay is fine (I get most my fabric from Ebay and LA btw) and the under shirt is a pink cotton Jersey (this was recycled from my friend who works in film) When quarantine is over I highly recommend looking at thrift stores in the linens and curtains sections as well as the dresses. You never know what you may find and can upcycle! Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! Start by practicing straight stitches on plain cotton fabric to get used to the machine. Then sketch circles, squiggles and zig zags on your fabric and try to follow those on the line as close as possible! From there, try making a pillow case (you can search for tutorials here on KZbin) then try sewing a circle skirt or gathered skirt(my most recent tutorial). Have lots of patience and if you get frustrated, walk away. Have a snack, drink and take some time before coming back. Try to sew something a little each day and try a new skill or technique each month. You can do sample pieces instead of projects if youre not comfortable trying full projects yet- like a sample of setting in a zipper on cheap cotton or a little rectangle of cotton to practing gathering. There's also a fantastic book called Basic Sewing for Costume Construction handbook by rebecca cunningham that will teach you all the basics you need to know and you can staple your samples to the pages as references. Do a few of those a day and youll be sewing like the wind in no time! Hope that helps!
