Күн бұрын

What happens when you get a group of AirForce Texan Big Bore Airgun loving airgunners together? You get the best airgunner deer camp EVER and it was all captured on our Tactacam Video kits. This year's Michigan Early Antlerless Deer Season was hosted by Andrew Higgins, long time member of the Lethal Air Airgun Hunters Facebook group and Grand Master White Tail Deer hunter.
We all met up in Eastern Michigan located in Sanilac County to hunt over 1000 acres to help thin out the Deer herd and hopefully cut down on a lot of the crop damage being done. In total, we had 7 hunters in the woods and every one got a deer on the ground. Chad and Caleb Simon from Lethal Air came up from Virginia and Tim Davis drove up from Indiana to chase these Michigan White Tails. We had a new air gunner in camp as well. Russ pulled the trigger for the first time ever on an Airforce Texan big bore airgun on Friday and by 9am the next morning he had his first ever big airgun Deer on the ground. Andrew's buddy Ron was the only powder burner in Camp, but we are still working on converting him to big bore airguns still. He will come around!
We had so many different big bore airguns there from factory stock big bores to modded AirForce Texan .45s and .50 cals from Lethal Air. Even though most of the terrain was wide open bean fields with longer shot opportunities, we were able to get onto a few funnel and pinch points to get some closer shots too.
Chad brought the Umarex Hammer and Evanix Rex and the Umarex Hammer took down a few Deer too and it was wicked with those Lehigh F5 Controlled Fracturing slugs! I had so many deer show up at 200 yards in the first day and the second day and I told myself that if I can range one broadside with my laser range finder at 150 yards, I would SEND IT!
After shooting Mr. Hollow Point .50 cal ammo all summer long for the Quigley Offhand 325 yard bucket shot and shooting out to 650 and 1000 yard milk jugs, 150 yards feels like a chip shot at this point. But the situation was going to have to be perfect.
For this hunt I had my Texan DOPE'd out to 175 yards during the previous week of testing. I am slinging 525 grain Mr. Hollow Point slugs at 850 FPS for over 840 FPE at the muzzle. It usually bugs the crap out of me when I see shooters / hunters saying "SEND IT!" or "SAVAGE!", but this was about as "FULL SEND! and SAVAGE!" as it gets. Capturing the shot through the Tactacam FTS scope mounted camera was AWESOME!
After taking a Deer last year late Deer season at 120 yards with the AirForce Carbon Fiber .45 and the results I am seeing with the .50 cal Texan, I am revising my 100 yards and in recommendation for some big bore airguns. Big bore airgun technology has gotten to be such a large spectrum in the market ranging from 150 to 800+ FPE, which is creating an ever changing maximum effective range paradigm.
With that said, you need to spend A TON of time knowing your holdovers and accuracy of your gun and at what pressures to shoot at for those ranges before you decide to SEND IT!

Excellent job on the video. Can't wait to get one of these axis hunts that we have done. So far two fat does last week, but there is some huge free range bucks coming through. I told my wife that is next and we need to get it on video. I have the airforce texan lss .457 cf and it took both of them down easily. One at 127 yards and the other at 72 yards. They definitely don't go far.

Plus modifications by AAO, Lethal Air and of course Mr. Hollowpoint will only add into fun hunting and venison stocking for coming winter. I haven’t got a chance to go out hunting yet and would love to join you guys if I could. And Speaking of venison Chris, I really want to try curry venison recipe. Brother this was a hellovagood video and some amazing shots. The fact that you all had a working Hammer is amazing in and of its self. Those guns are notorious for fails and problems. That’s just wow really. I want to get into big bore airguns but 1000-2000k versus my old 30-30 150$ beater that puts them on the ground for the past 35 years every year...hard call man. Someday maybe. I want it but out of my reach for 1 day a year. I still want it anyway cause I love airguns and shooting them. Maybe when they get the bugs worked out of the more affordable hammer. Awesome shooting. Great video. Congratulations my friend. Epic really!

The upfront cost is a bit and a compressor i cast my own rounds for a 417 grain round after the upfront costs of the mold, melting pot only costs me around 16 cents per round can shoot cheap and they are powerful i got a 580cc bottle and medium spring over 800 foot pounds and u can get suppresors for them

Excellent video Chris! Gotta love the Airforce Texan , a simple yet extremely efficient and effective big bore air rifle platform that I feel is second to none with more than enough power in stock form to make ethical kills on every big game species in the United States and with some simple mods even most African game animals. I love to follow your work and appreciate your dedication to the advancement of this sport. Keep up the good work Chris and stay safe. Wow my answer popped up just looking at the video of the 50 cal It's not well the slug doesn't look like an actual 50 caliber bullet that you would see from your powder charge 50 caliber rifle with the cartridge but with that being said it's definitely a 50 caliber size slug and now hopefully I can still or catalogs are still available.

If you pause the video on Chads doe and Calebs before he flips it over you can see a .50 hole in each. The Lehigh basically tore up the vitals in each deer from the fracturing petals and the core penetration punched through leaving a 1/2 inch hole on the backside.

I'm interested in the big bore rifles and comparing them the air charge Big bore ones to my powder charge 33 lever action Marlin my heckler and cock 30 ought 6 semi-automatic and one of my favorite guns that I use for hunting on private property owned by my family where in my state you can't hunt with rifle for dear you can only hunt with shotgun or bow but in Pennsylvania especially on the private land which was my grandparents dairy farm in the woods are loaded with deer and I'm interested in getting a catalog on some of these big bore air rifles and even some of the high capacity air pistols I am too one made by Walter just like my 9 mm and one that resembles my 1911 45 Auto made by a company called tangaloosa and unlike this high powered air rifles and some pistols it takes a CO2 cartridge but not your average Daisy across on the comics man and for the high powered air pistol that's like my 1911 45 it holds eight shots of 177 caliber pellets and once you far two clips of it that CO2 cartridge is completely depleted and it has a recoil on it not as bad as my 45 but I put it through some pretty thick steel so I love hunting and competition shooting and I have plenty of different kinds of you know rifles throughout the years and but several years ago I got a catalog from Air Force iPad air guns and I'm trying to see if they're still available the catalogs because I want to next year this year hunting seasons out for me again going on 9 years in a row due to personal things but anyhow I want to try deer hunting with one of those big four air rifles and I'm just hoping that there's a way that they're still actual catalogs available instead of trying to the local Dick's which I don't even think there's one around here in Delaware anymore but there's a Cabela's and there's a Walmart but the only thing that Walmart carries is a pretty high power Ruger rifle and a friend of mine has one and the one thing about these big boy rifles the air ones is I'm just curious what the ammunition looks like exactly now when it comes to power charge weapons and bullets I'm pretty knowledgeable on that I did a lot of competition shooting and had some law enforcement career for about 4 years and it doesn't like that she loves me for who I am when I first saw somebody who took down and elk with one of these big bore high powered air rifles I'm like this is something that I'd like to try out but I'm just curious what the ammunition looks like a couple people online said that they look like the old mini balls I'm like what so common is is I've looked around and the only place that I found it has anything high-powered or the pistols and the two I have a good enough they were pretty much the same price as my 45 my 9 I'm not as expensive as my 357 Magnum revolver but I just want to know the complete ins and outs down to what the ammunition looks like because this one air rifle high power my friend has just one cock of the barrel single shot and it actually has a suppressor for the sound and it still makes your ears ring and it punches through solid steel so with all that being said are there still actual catalogs that can be mailed instead of going online or going to the stores and looking around before I decide to save up and after I pick one out and save the money up get one I'm always in trying new things especially when it comes down to honey and definitely competition shooting?
