I built the exhaust manifold that's on that car about 10 years ago. Built it from 600 miles away without having the car 😂
@TheCherryGarage2 жыл бұрын
No way!!! That's awesome. Do you still work with AW11 or just make manifolds.in general?

@@TheCherryGarage I'm actually a firefighter now and just do fabrication for fun. Mostly build and swap my own cars and projects but a friend of mine was building his mr2 and wanted me to build a manifold so I got him the turbo and built the manifold from a head flange with a turbo flange tacked on.

This is sick

I love this project! I'm sure the car is going to be sick! I want to add some things from my experience. I don't think that paint is salvageable (if that's even a word) in the sense it's going to shine. There are too many variables as to why. Seems like it was spray painted and depending on the type of paint, flash times, number of coats, etc... how long until the clear coat was applied. IMO is not worth the time and effort right now. But, again I'm not a paint expert. Safelite, oh boy. I have never had a good experience with them. On one car I had the insurance recommended them and they sent over some guy that I have no idea how is was hired to replace windshields. They asked for a 2nd chance so I said ok as long as they send someone that's being do this for years and has experience. It came out way better but there was still some issue that I cannot remember. On a different car I know that the windshield was replaced with Safelite and every time it rained more than 5 minutes I got a wet spot inside the car and smelled musty. I finally started looking locally at reviews and called a random smaller company if they have the windshield for that car and have somebody experienced (basically along the lines of send me your best guy) and he clearly knew more than what I remember from safelite and never had an issue afterwards. Whoever you go with just make sure it is not some cheap China knock-off glass because they will break in a few months. Wow, that was longer than I expected. Hope that helps, and continue the good work on your build!

Hey man thank you for all the info!! I agree, I think I'm past the point of redemption with the paint, considering there's a few spots that look like need bondo, I'll probably sand the paint down, bondo, prime and then wrap it. Might be quicker for me to go higher grit and remove the paint rather than try and make the clear coat smooth. As for Safelite, it was the only place I could find that had the MR2 glass (within a reasonable distance to me). They say the location I will go to has an expert in classic car windshield replacement. I'm not sure if that means he is old or if he truly has experience, but I'm hoping for the latter. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed but I'll be there during the process to make sure it's all going well. Either way, I appreciate the input, wish me luck and stay tuned for the updates!

At 6:25 you said you fitted an air filter for the turbo, but I thought the Mk1 only came with a supercharger. What engine is in it?
@TheCherryGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes, from factory it only had an option for supercharger. This one is the stock 4AGE engine with an aftermarket turbo installed

where did you get the sender at? i had like the same issue with mine only three screws in after i gave it to a shop to fix, i ended up fixing the other issue myself after the shop charged me an arm and leg to do not much, but my fuel level is still unknown and i cant seem to find one, which one worked for you?

I had one leftover from my other MR2, I haven't looked into new replacements at all, but checkout Neil.jones.mr2 on Instagram, he has a stock load of OEM parts

Why stick the air filter in the engine bay, it will only suck hot air from the engine , it would be better in the boot with an air feed coming from under the car, or using the original air feed from the pod on the right hand side which feeds directly into the boot.
@TheCherryGarage2 жыл бұрын
I definitely considered both. Later on I put the filter above the engine bay, in the newer episodes. I decided it was better above because it'd get less dirty and turbulent air, as well as the shortest length of intake tubing possible. I might change it up in the short future, but for now I'm loving how it's together.
@tonyodonnell71892 жыл бұрын
@@TheCherryGarage Yeah I have seen the new videos, not pretty but more effective, I have seen guys at the track make F1 style inlets down to the engine bay, if you could fabricate something similar it would take your car to the next level, 👍👍

Is it hard to take the dash apart to change the front speakers? I have recently acquired my father in laws 1986 he bought new. But it is in serious need of new speakers
@TheCherryGarage2 жыл бұрын
Front speakers are very easy, just have to get a small screwdriver to pop off the circular grated cover from each side of the dash to access each speaker.
@Winchester18972 жыл бұрын
@@TheCherryGarage oh seriously..... LMAO....I figured I would have to take the whole dash pad off...I'm use to cast iron,carbs,and V8's. Never messed with any imports,but I got it cheap enough I couldn't turn it down. Well anyway thanks for your time!
@TheCherryGarage2 жыл бұрын
Oh no it's very simple, two small speaker covers in each corner pop off in a second. You should be able to upgrade speakers in 5 minutes
