I finished an embroidered table cloth my mom started when she was 12 in 1944. It is actually from 3 generations as her aunt drew her the embroidered rose pattern for the blocks and crotchet gorgeous edging and insertion lace. She brought all the pieces with her in 1964 when we came to the US from South America. and I was a baby. It sat in her dresser drawer until I assembled it and finished it in 2005. It is truly a treasured piece and your moms quilt will be the same. Hugs. 😊

My friend's mother Wanda, had to go live in an assisted living place with her husband. Her daughter cleaned out the house and came across this small quilt Wanda had started. There were 6 blocks finished and 3 to go. They were big flowers with stars in the middle to applique. I usually don't do hand applique but since the others were done by hand that's how I did the rest. She had sent the extra fabric with it so I put on 2 borders and machine quilted it. It turned out beautifully ! It was different shades of purple and lavender . I used my left over batting so I had nothing invested in it other than time. I did not charge her, because I've known Wanda since I was a child. She is a lovely woman! I wouldn't have felt right charging her! On the label, I put started by Wanda, finished by Dolores and the date. So she can enjoy it now and when she's gone her daughter can enjoy it. It was very special and I felt honored to do it for them!!

Hello Kate What a lovely quilt I think the next quilt I make I'm going to have a go at pining it all together I have always done a running stitch which always end up on the machine stitchingand so hard to remove. Are you using safety pins or are they a special pin just for quilting?

Mindy, the pins are curved safety pins that can be found at quilt shops. They are about an inch long. They can be difficult to close, so, of course, there's a tool for that (or you can use the bowl of a teaspoon instead!).

In a world that is full of turmoil and hate, here we have the lovely Kate, that can bring us down to reality and make life so much better for all of us! Thank you for being the positive light that we need in the darkness around us. Side note: Being an American, I'm not familiar with the proper way to make a nice cup of British tea. I would love to learn Kate's way of making tea!
@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts
@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts 2 ай бұрын
You must have a pot and you have to use loose leaf tea 😁 The water must be freshly drawn and poured when at a rolling boil. Stale water will taste awful and if the water comes off the boil it won't bring out the best flavour. In Britain we warm the pot by pouring a little of the heating water in to the pot and swishing it around a bit while the rest of the water comes up to boil,then throw the water away and your pot is already warm and won't draw the heat away before your tea is brewed. Most people will say a teaspoon of tea for each person and one for the pot, but I find that too strong. We call strong tea 'builders tea' because workmen traditionally like their tea strong enough for a mouse to trott across and full of sugar! A standard, family teapot needs no more than 3 teaspoons of tea and a few minutes to brew. Milk first, although others will be shouting 'no! Milk last!' 😂 and a strainer to collect the leaves. The leaves are really good for roses, they used to be sprinkled on carpet and left to dry, like bicarbonate of soda they draw out odours. If you have to resort to teabags,a used, cooled teabag makes a good mask for resting on tired eyes 😁🫖🫖🫖

What a joy watching you layer your moms heart quilt with Anna. I love that you are keeping the tradition going & Anna is so happy to learn the process. Your large table comes in handy for sure. My sewing table opens up but not quite like yours & I have to pull my quilts along & move them side to side as I pin & check the back for wrinkles. There’s nothing that makes me as excited as starting a new quilt. We have our spring interrupted w/2 days of cold & rain & I am sewing away. Started a new quilt yesterday for my daughter making squares on point with fabric she selected from Tula Pink, I am doing my daily temperature quilt blocks, bound my color wash quilt (all Kaffe Fasset) I just finished machine quilting inspired by Terry Rowland & hand sewing my hexi quilt at night while watching tv. I finish ev project I start & like you I enjoy having several projects in the works. I am blessed to have found your channel & love ev you do. I also enjoy seeing your sweet cats roam in & out of your scenes. Lastly, tell John I am inspired by the way he rearranged your flying geese quilt & my next one will be wonky with geese flying sideways as I LOVED it so much. 🥰

How lovely. I have 12 of my mom's outfits that I had planned to use for 12 Sun Bonnet Sue and Overall Sam quilts, 1 for each of moms 12 grandbabies; but, after the untimely death of her 2nd born grandbaby I had totally lost my yearning to do so. I've watched your previous unveiling of mums quilt tops but this one is so precious. I'm finding the urge to pull out the clothes and get to work and with the missing niece's quilt I will give that to my brother for his loss of her.

I've only been a subscriber for the last few months, but I so enjoy watching and listening to you, while I knit usually. Entering your Mom's quilt, which you finish, in a Two Person category, in a quilt show is the best idea. I also make quilts, Art Quilts mostly, before this year. Now I've begun making quilts to give to others through my Quilt Guild's Service Projects. Some go to children that are removed from their home to enter Foster Care, others go to a Women's Shelter and still others go to the VA. Many are made from scraps. I, like you Kate, prefer bright colors. I also envy you going forward with all the different crafts you do. I have grand ideas to dye yarn, but haven't actually done it. There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day. Hello, from central Minnesota, USA.

My one regret is that none of my daughters like sewing or crafts. They would just throw my stash out. However, I have found one of my young friends wants to learn all my hobbies to add what she does already. As I am sorting stash what I don't want, I give it to her. She makes for herself and her family. She is also starting a crafting business. Fabrics that are not her favorites she is using to make the things she sells. She had a really cruddy sewing machine on its last legs. When I got sick with this cancer, I gave her my older Bernina that I don't use anymore. She profusely thanks me at least once a month. It has changed her world of what she can do. This makes me so very happy. I'm well enough now to do handwork in my recliner. I'm working to build my strength enough to use my sewing machine. I still have 3 modern ones and 3 collectors, hehehe. Kate, you give me such inspiration.
