I've never tried making my own soap but I have seen numerous people shatter their mason jars when mixing the lie. So M has a legit reason to get a little nervous during that step. Awesome video guys keep up the amazing job

as a kid i did lye soap as a school project, but i put lye and hot water in a aluminum dish pan which eat the bottom out of the pan instantly so I had soap all over the kitchen what a mess but I got an A on my project

i still got the cast iron pot my granmaw n great granmaw use for makin lye soap they also made hominy in the same pot i mostly scald chickens in it when i worked on the drilling rig i used to bring home some caustic acid we would mix it up in a barrel and would dissolve any diseased game chickens that died in it to keep from spreading anything to the rest of the flock on the drillin rig that caustic would make yer aluminum hard hat real shiny unless ya left it in there too long then it would disappear so basically its gon be a month before Lou gets soap to shower with lol

Very interesting! My mother made lye soap from the renderings of the dairy beef we killed for our family meat. Done in late fall when the halves could hang for a week or more, weather permitting. Usually made 4 cake pans full witch mother cut into squares and used for everything. The only store soap used was Ivory washing your face. She would grade it to put in the ringer washer to do laundry. The rendered lard from the pigs was used for frying and baking. 👨🏻‍🦳(This was post war into the later 50s!)

What about using a cookie cooling rack? Would that work for letting air circulate?

Does it help your wife making soap to be naked under that white cutoff shirt she is wearing, or is it a safety protection shirt she needs to wear while using caustic materials? Great video. I hope to see more of her in the upcoming videos!
