You're probably still conscious, and cognizant after a parasite takes over your brain. The parasite only needs motor and sensory control, so it would be a waste of resources for the parasite to numb or kill emotions. All of those necromorphs you're killing are in a separate hell inside their own forebrains: unable to help you; unable to call for help; fearing their own existence, fearing their own mortality, but not wanting to die now that they have seen the attrocities they have done while corrupted by the all consuming Moon that calls them to an eternity of anguish, for no God would ever forgive them.
