lets talk about medical gaslighting

this video has a particular focus on the New Zealand public healthcare system through the lens of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, but many of the principles around medical gaslighting can be applied to other conditions or medical settings in other countries.
i wanted to shed some light on a topic that often remains in the shadows. gaslighting is the repeated denial of a person's experience in an attempt to dismiss their concerns and make them question themselves and their judgement.
in this video, i have a particular focus on medical gaslighting - a phenomenon where patients face disbelief, skepticism, or dismissal of their symptoms and experiences. i explore real-life examples and discuss the emotional toll it takes on those living with rare health conditions.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a complex condition that can be challenging to diagnose and manage, however, that doesn't justify the invalidation and lack of adequate medical care that patients face. lets challenge the assumptions and biases that perpetuate this harmful practice within the medical system.
I want to raise awareness about how it affects individuals and the importance of advocating for yourself. i have also included some strategies that might be helpful to communicate your needs in a healthcare setting.

Steph and Ruby were both my best friends and i was incredibly close with them both, they fought so incredibly well despite all the awful things and trauma they had to deal with and experience.
