I am here in Canada, with a toddler who was referred for Speech and Language Pathologist as she just WOULD NOT talk while at daycare until random phrases started to come out. We were discharged as she is able to talk just Chooses not to in certain situations and therapy that could be offered wouldn't be affective as it would only get her comfortable with that one therapist. We were told to "force" social interactions and offer different forms of communication like signing when in situations that she isn't okay to verbally communicate.

sorry have to disagree you are wrong in saying that it can always being cured with the right help and as a so called expert you should know that in all things s.e.n there are never any guarantees of a end result people get given false hopes because of when so called experts are saying/ promising there is a cure or light at the end of the tunnel because sometimes there is never a end to your child's problems/issues even when experts get involved because the simple fact of the matter is it's not about the diagnosis as 5 children could have the same diagnosis yet all 5 children could have a totally different outcome/result because it is down to that individuals mind/brain and how it's programmed so to speak

Some people can make a full recovery and manage their selective mutism really well. It takes a lot of hard work though. Thanks for your comment :-)
