We have found that using our mini skidsteer to haul chips/dirt away and leave stump grinding job raked level is a game changer. Anyone can leave a huge mess after grinding! Yes, takes more time, but do something the other guys don’t do!

How much do you charge for hauling?
@DarrellAmaral-ob8dz4 ай бұрын
Good advice to start small, I started out buying a SC 852 for $115,000 plus $3500 to upgrade the wheel. Then I bought a sg 40 for $28,000 don’t really use the SC 852 much yet.

Stump grinding is complicated, great info here. I subcontract for a lot of folks who do not get paid until I get in and finish the job. I have several machines and can handle any job, but my issue is I started adding hauling debris and putting topsoil back into the stump holes. Grinding stumps are not the backlog, but the other stuff is, so be careful and think it through. Thanks for posting.

I feel your pain with the clean-up. Last year I found it much easier giving a name and number of a reasonable guy that does that sort of thing. Surprisingly people were actually okay with it and have thanked me for recommending such good people.

@@tacticalstump1785 What type of guy did you find to clean up after you? I've had a few landscapers around here with mutual clientele, who were happy to haul away chips, backfill and sow grass seed...but finding someone to do that full time, sounds like a goldmine!
@michaeltraynor37184 жыл бұрын
Yea, that may be the solution, obviously as you have said multiple times in your videos, the job needs to be done right in order to get referrals and finding someone who will do it right is always a challenge. Certainly not complaining happy to get the work, just have to keep adjusting the model to meet the demand. thanks

Thanks for your video. You kind of already answered my question. I was thinking about starting stump grinding as a side work. I have been researching for a while about used machines around my area and basically there isn't much. I don't have a large budget for one and don't really want to drive 3 hours one way to look at a used machine that might just be a piece of junk when I get there. So I have been looking at some hand swings from my local big box stores. I'm wanting to pick up the jobs that might be to small for the big guys to mess with. Kind of a niche market if you will. Do you feel this is feasible?

How do you do your estimates? Hourly rates or by the inch? I’m in Greenville SC and price per inch is $2-3.

Yep, it's been cold here as well and awfully rainy. Okay a question: Is your intent to expand and get more stump grinders? Enjoyed the video. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🙂

I don't really have a plan. I've been winging it since day 1. Currently I have a new grinder being built up at rayco. I hope to find a guy to run it for me. Ultimately I just want to keep up with demand. Sometimes its hard to keep everyone happy but we sure try!

I'm interested in starting in the business with money not being an issue. I want to go full time as my goal. I don't want to buy something that I'll quickly outgrow. What grinder would you suggest. ?
@scrapmanindustries Жыл бұрын
Vermeer sc40tx would be a good one. It depends on your area though. I just rented a Vermeer sc70tx but in my opinion it’s way too big unless you’re doing either a bunch of stumps at one property or someone that doesn’t do clean up. I like the smaller Vermeers a lot better personally. I haul everything in my dump trailer. The small machine can fit in my trailer when it’s almost full. The big one I need the trailer to be nearly empty to haul it. That leaves me with having to run a separate trip to one dump the chips and then go back and pick up the grinder. That could be solved if you put a landscape bed on your truck but mine is a welding rig. The small ones also fit into tighter places and don’t tear up yards as much. If you get a small one get spare teeth and learn how to sharpen them. The big ones can pretty much run with diner spoons on the wheel but small ones bounce off the stump when they get kinda dull. Most not all but most rental companies don’t change teeth on the small ones enough so if you rent buy your own teeth and put the old ones back on when you take it back.
