Will I still be able to catch up? A💡: You don’t need any previous katana martial arts experience to participate in our lessons. Seki Sensei, the instructor of the online lessons, will carefully instruct you on how to handle the katana regardless of your level. You will also be able to access all the videos of the past lessons so you can watch what every other student has learned. You can also send us videos of your progress, and Seki Sensei will be happy to give you feedback. Q❓: What is the right length of the Iaito (zinc alloy training katana) I should use? A💡: Please purchase an Iaitō at least two blocks longer than the standard length. The standard length for Seki Sensei is about 177cm, so he should use a 2.45 Shaku long katana. However, he uses a 2.6 Shaku-long katana that is supposed to be used by someone 190cm tall. If the katana is too short, it becomes too easy to draw, which is not good for training. Q❓: Can I join even if I belong to a different Ryuha style? A💡: Yes, it’s not a problem at all. The Seki Sensei himself has trained in more than five styles and various other weapons. If you don’t want others to know that you are participating, you can join the online lessons with your camera off. To have the Sensei check your progress, you can send us a video of you practicing. 🗡Join the Online Iaido Training with Seki Sensei🗡 Sign Up Here (One Lesson FREE): www.patreon.com/sekisenseiiaidotraining Interested in taking Iaido lessons directly from the 8th Dan Iaido Master with 40 years of experience in Musō Shinden Ryu, Seki sensei? Very good practical advice. I know that the left hand moving the sheath back is faster than the right hand moving the sword forward by watching Iaido practitioners do that. Sensei just showed how fast.
@michaelrizzo55232 жыл бұрын
I've started experimenting with these principles and must say it makes MUCH more sense than the "static" sayabiki I've seen where the practitioner waits with his right hand already on the tsuka and the saya extended and held static 30cm or more forward from the obi waiting to draw, especially if the intent is to be able to respond to a sudden attack. Bringing the tsuka to the right hand instead of reaching for it is incredibly useful! Now I'll try the thumb "don't grip" advice. Thank you so much for sharing this!
@payon15592 жыл бұрын
An other Point is, that you can hide the intention of Drawing, because there is less obvious movement if you love the tsuka to your hand instead

May I suggest some camera angles? Up and behind Seki Sensei, that way people can see movement direction. Then another, maybe up and behind the Uke? And also, is it possible to see Seki sensei's feet? For example, during the draw, does Seki Sensei's feet move as his hips pivot back? As he seems to bend his knees slightly and drop his weight to open the hips during the draw.

@@user-ch9vd4cd3t No, That's what I'm saying, they talk about their linage but when you look at what they do practically, there's no way those techniques were the norm of the times. Nice to see that the last 200-300 years haven't completely neutered Japanese martial arts. There's a huge advantage in historical and otherwise scholarly aspects to understanding this beyond the sporterized pantomime most of us are familiar with.

This was very interesting to learn! It makes sense now thy the sheath is loosely tucked into the belt, aside from needing to just take it off your waist without hassle. I imagine the way to do this with a western sabre would be to have it loosely hang instead of being rigidly mounted to the belt. Using (ahistorical) sword frog loops would also make this possible.
