Scrapers are heavy, expensive to move and that is a single engine model as you noted. You would need at least a D8 to push it to get quick loading. Even having two of them to push/pull is often not efficient without a push cat. They work best on big projects where the dirt has to be moved more than a few hundred feet.

I ran a 627 (? twin engine) for a few days way back in 1977. Cut was up on a hillside fill for a pad downhill from that. We would come off that hill as fast as she would go, hit the fill area and lift the gate part way and spread the load about 3" deep and it would be smooth as a road. I even did the final dirt grade with a scraper because the rented grader had gone back. That was a very enjoyable job. If I recall it was about a 100,000 yard job.

those Ardco's are niche machines, mostly oil and gas industries. gotta give ARDCO credit, the digital dash in the steering wheel is certainly unique. coming home from Ritchie Brothers empty handed is often a very good thing. RB is were junk goes to die or for some sucker to overpay for clapped out scrap

ARDCO is based out of Louisiana and those trucks are made in Michigan according to their website. Guess they're owned by the same company that makes Yanmar now. Anyway, can see one advantage of thay Takeuchi tracked dump truck with the swing dump bucket. When you need to add dirt from the top of dams. Just swing and dump where it's needed. Too bad they're not bigger though.
@derKarl_stp
@derKarl_stp Жыл бұрын
the Takeuchi ones are pretty common over here in Europe, especially in Austria and Germany and some parts of the alps where you do a lot of work on forestry and mountain roads they get used a lot over here for working in these areas as they are pretty much offroad monsters in a compact package the bigger versions would be from the companies morooka, Bergmann, Hitachi, Prinoth, Komatsu to name a few... Prinoth, Hitachi, Komatsu and Morooka make / made full 360 swing versions of the large ones... was funny to see them work, drive forward into the construction site, turn the whole uppercarriage 180 around and then once loaded go back in "reverse" while looking forward because you just turned the upper part around... by the way the ardco dumpers seem to me to have been used for lightweight bulk material

those Aroco trucks are made as a platform truck, they are not designed as a dump truck, you can clearly see that from the gray truck part and the red loose superstructure that is bolted on top, Aroco trucks are also used for agricultural purposes , for example to build a farm sprayer on it, or for example for Charlie to build a special cement mixer truck for that subsoil stabilization

Military graders are primarily for grading runways and encampment roads already mostly preped by those dozers Clint resells. My oldest brother was an Army combat engineer at one point in his post active duty Army retirement National Guard career. He explained it to me. The National Guard finally aged him out into his second retirement in Alaska. Yuppers, my oldest brother has to be seriously touched in the head to love up there. Kind of a bummer only Chris didn't score what he was looking for. Coulda been a interesting episode seeing what he faced once it was back on his Homestead.

OF COURSE Chris knows how to run a scraper,,,,, hahaha. What he said about the issues of running one is true. They are a bit hard on the hoses,,,,,,. They are REALLY fun to run!! 😊 I preferred the twins, 2 motors one front and rear and each motor drives 2 wheels for full 4wd. They don’t need a dozer, but if you get one stuck,,,,,,, uggghhhhhh.

Some rather tired looking trucks lol... I like the old scraper but, yep, it looks like most of its life was spent dry-rotting in a motor pool (your logic against one makes perfect sense, though maybe one of the pull-behinds would work even though you'd still be hunting something to pull it). Some of the old lift stuff I used to run as a civilian at Ft. Campbell was equally tired (some units great, some not so much). The wheel loaders look better than those I see here in Williston but they get used and abused up here. Still better than the worn out bushings on a couple of old 10k's out at Ft. Campbell (going down the road one always risked Lewis-and-Clarking, for there was probably a quarter-turn of play in the steering lol). As for changing patterns, you guys have no sense of adventure pfffft... lol I've hauled a few Marooka pieces, including dump trucks. They ARE handy in a lot of locations. Always fun to roam the RB lots and you guys had good weather compared to here (our little RB lot looks bare for this upcoming auction). Time for our next blizzard this week pffft lol...

Instead of a big honking scraper, I'd say get one more off-road haul trucks. That way you keep the excavator busy, less waiting on the one truck to finish moving loads. Or just a regular dump truck, for picking up material or hauling off to a dump site.
