Watching this video really puts into perspective what we got done! I shoulda kept up with how many times I heard, "we gonna need more dirt" 😂😂😂, I was thinking for a minute that there wasn't going to be enough clay in North Carolina lol

As an old man who has run backhoes and mini excavators all my life, I am just blown away by the amount of dirt you guys have moved in such a short time. Now I'm going out and use my "towable trencher" with it's 13" bucket to load a half ton of dirt in my "mini dump truck".😁😂🤣

That is going to be a big and deep lake when it gets filled. It is amazing the amount of dirt you are able to move as fast as you are building the dam. I hope to see the end product full of water.

Chris, this old lady just loves watching the great job you and your team accomplish cooperating with each other. You have a real rhythm working together. I have to tell you that the view from each piece of equipment really gives a nose view that helps this viewer get a feeling of the enormity of the job in progress. I have my computer screen set as big as I can get it to see the dirt moved. It's almost like I can smell it too. Your videos just get better and better, especially the drone views showing how much work is getting done. The volume of dirt moved is amazing and exciting to watch the job from each piece of equipment. Thanks so much for sharing and hope you and your team all stay safe.

The 550 makes it very efficient! Almost 30 tons loaded, moved, dumped and spread every five minutes by three guys. I retired from 25 years of IT work. I don't know why but watching these videos is both mesmerizing and relaxing. Course, it may be because I worked construction in my teens and loved seeing physical results of what is being done. IT work is more ethereal so the satisfaction is just in completing a project, but you can always drive by a house, or a pond structure and know your hands made part of that happen.

A 550 with an appropriately sized long reach setup would be a scary toy for sure. I agree with others that you will miss that when you go back to the 220...granted it depends on the scale of the job if you will really miss it or not. But this was a fun set of videos.

I was thinking yesterday that it might be quicker to use the truck to move the dirt into place. That way you wouldn’t have been waiting on the dozer so much. I don’t think that dam could be compacted any tighter, it’s hard as a rock. I really like these long videos. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos on this pond build.

A couple of things I was thinking about, one was that the hauler, the way you were loading it, had to be grossing out at about 115-120k, I would think anyway, and that had to be compacting the living daylights out of that dam. Second thing is I saw pretty decent job of gate spreading off the hauler a time or two. That is going to be an awesome dam, no two ways about, thanks for the update sir.

It's quite a fine balance choosing the right machine for each job, the 550 is an awesome bit of kit.. but when you take into account the moving and set up costs plus the ridiculous amount of diesel it burns sometimes its actually more cost effective to use a smaller machine which might take slightly longer but overall saves money

That 550 is a dirt moving beast and is a BEAST to move from job to job. If you go back the delivery video you can see how it took an entire crew just to unload it. The scale of many of his jobs would make moves like that uneconomical. There are right sized excavators for the core of someone’s work that balance the time and cost of a move with the size of the job. With that said, what a cool monster that thing is!
