In the early 70s I worked for a copper mine and the pump on the upper tailings pond broke. Couldn't wait for a new pump so we made a siphon with 16 inch plastic pipe. Pretty much like in the video only we put a big gate valve on the downhill side. We started it by running a 1/4 inch line from the high point to the intake manifold of our work truck. The trick was to shut off the vacuum before we trashed our truck. Dang siphon worked better than our pump did and danged impressive to watch.

🔴 What Is Islam? ⚠️ 🔴 Islam is not just another religion. 🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. 🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. 🔵 It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. 🔴 It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. 🌍 The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: 📖 { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)[4] 📚 🔴 Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. 🔵 Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him.

Chris make life easier. Put valves at the fill port and at the discharge end. Close the discharge valve Fill the pipe. Close the fill valve. Open the discharge valve. No losing caps or playing with wrenches. You can stop and start the siphon anytime you want when you open thr discharge valve again. Quit fighting the caps .

.... stupid question.... why do you build your siphon pipes always with the access hatch on top? Why not only a pipe all the way and at the end you let your PUMP pull thru the house all the air out? Wouldn't that be easier and less parts ? Just asking.
@PavelKnyshov
@PavelKnyshov 3 жыл бұрын
The hatch at the top allows you to fill the siphon in any way: using a pump, a chain of people with buckets or fill from a tanker truck. To turn off the siphon, it is enough to open the top hatch and the air will break the water column.

That metal pipe is the normal over flow of the lake. It has a 90 at the bottom and a horizontal pipe going through the dam. You can see the discharge end at 1:55. With smaller dams and PVC overflow pipes you can sometimes unscrew / pull the vertical pipe to fully drain a lake, but here a syphon is used to direct the water into the overflow pipe.

The entire pipe was full of water, then they just opened the bottom cap. Gravity and vaccum do the rest.

What type of PVC pipe did you use?Does it need to be high pressure pipe or can you use standard underground drainage pipe?
@integr8er66
@integr8er66 3 жыл бұрын
The bigger problem isn't pressure but Vacuum, when the lake gets low you are lifting maybe 15 ft of negative head and the pipe may collapse. The max pressure on the pipe was when it was capped off and that would only be maybe 20 ft head so like 45psi, but once its open there is no pressure on the line on that side and neg pressure on the lake side

Anyway, great videos! I hope you get some good video of the lake excavation. If you happen to see a white OBS F-350 4x4 crew cab long bed in the neighborhood, that would be me. Jim

In this case it's because the lake is fed by a steam and when the water hits the lake it slows down the dirt and rocks and everything else being swept along in the current settles out at the bottom of the lake. Every few years or decades you have to dig all that dirt out which requires draining the lake. Hope this helps

@@zachariahmagallan5738 it's a good question. If you're interested look up dredging. They do it constantly in big rivers. You could put a dredge in your lake but it would be more trouble than draining the lake and cleaning it that way.
