Hi Jimmy and Alan, thank you for your information sharing, we are a 188 visa holder family and just landed in melbourne in early june with our temporary visa. I would like to seek advice about the Medicare Levy Surcharge 1%-1.5% in our case whether we need to pay for such surcharge as we didnt buy / hold any hospital coverage insurance yet. I noted that we dont have to pay for the 2% Medicare Levy tax as we dont enjoy the medicare services yet. But do we need to pay for the Medicare Levy Surcharge if we dont hold any hospital coverage insurance during my residency stay in Australia? appreciate your kind advice,
I've done a similar comparison for VHIS plans in HK. I found that AIA had this requirement (ie, 183 days in HK), otherwise only 60% There exist some other competitor in HK that had the similiar plan, but not that 183 days requirement.
Please call your local Human Resources Centre and ask to connect to Medicare Department. If you need translations in your language, you can just request for it. It is better to get the correct informations off-hand directly. Actually for any informations that relate to your well- being , you should contact your local Human Resources Centre first.
