In the pokemon anime, in the first season that ash started out, it shows normal fish inside of the fish tanks in Misty's gym. Also, later that season, when they are on the cruise ship, there is a scene shown of a whole cooked Magikarp. So they do eat pokemon, and there is potentially animals other than pokemon. Not to mention, they couldnt call pikachu a "Mouse Pokemon" without even knowing what a mouse is.
