@@LetsPlayAll I just put down a deposit for the Epiphone wino. Should rock up Plek'd and ready to go in Oct. That burgundy red, gold hardware and white trim is just stunning. Love the tone on the Holy Divers (and the custom relic-ing looks neat). I will wait to hear what the stock pups sound like first, but I think some bare knuckles might be the modification of choice down the road.

Nice demo. Yes the BKP team says the HD’s are voiced to be JB/59 like, and they definitely do the best Cantrell like tones in LPs and super-strats! One note: the Wino has a Fishman power bridge and the piezo control knob but there is no extra input jack (but obviously storage for the battery is needed). That’s the cool thing about the Fishman system if you dig their piezo voice.

Gorgeous guitar Matt, and I think the pickups sound great. Love that color. I used to have a Ford Bronco with white and that maroon color. Nice truck but a gas sucker.

Wow that is a big difference between the pickups even hearing on youtube, I can imagine in person its only more stark between them especially when factoring in feel. The guitar looks fantastic, congrats.

Did you get around to doing a comparison with the Epiphone JC Wino? I’m really curious how the stock pickups in that compare to the Bareknuckles, which sound night and day better on this video. I’ve heard the bridge pickup in the Epiphone is actually really good, neck not so much

No but I have spoken to Gibson, so it may become a reality. Tbh though stock Epiphone pickups vs Bareknuckles I don't think would be a fair comparison given the price point of the Epiphone. I know very high end luthiers like Seth Baccus who use Bareknuckles in a lot of their builds because they're so good. I use them in most of my guitars now, would defo recommend them if you don't love the Epiphone stock ones

@@GlennKavanagh yes tbh tho I asked the guys at BKP to recommend their closest set to what Jerry had in his custom shop one haha. Not only did they recommend the Holy Divers but they matched the look of each pickup to his custom shop ones too which is pretty awesome!

Planning on buy the Epiphone Jerry Cantrell and change the pickups for the Gibson Burstbuckers 2-3 that comes in the Lazaros Bonamassa LesPaul.

Thanks so much for this. I am really on the fence about the Cantrell Epi, because I'm a big fan of his, but I already have a wine red Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2001, which has better pickups and hardware, so I'm finding it hard to justify it... but, I have always wanted a LP Custom, and this Tokai may just fill the void without breaking the bank, while being well made. I hear that Japanese guitars are well made (I actually have a made in Japan Fender Strat from 1994 that's great), so I'm hoping that a Tokai would be good too.

You're welcome mate, I love the Tokai, even with the stock pickups it was easily worth the £800, and with the pickup upgrades it's amazing. I'd defo recommend getting one if you can get one second hand. Can't comment on the Epiphone as yet, still haven't been able to get my hands on one to compare yet!

Great video! I think its cool/funny that many of the Tribute guitars today are based on guitars that were unfashionable when they were bought by the (future) legendary guitarists. Wine Les Pauls in the late 80's were the lowest cost available at that time - as well as Silverburst (Adam Jones/Chris Cornell). In the mid/late 80's people were ditching their 70's LP's and going for SuperStrats w/ Floyd Rose, so these were available used for about $500 back then.

Thanks mate! Yea for sure it's very much a trend driven thing. Loads of offsets were used by grunge bands etc cos they were just cheap to get hold of, not now haha! One of my few regrets is selling my first proper guitar, an ESP Mirage Deluxe super strat with dollar bills all over it. Sold it for peanuts and they're thousands now. Ah well!

@@LetsPlayAll Its hard when we realize we gave away what are now valuable guitars. I had one of the first Kramer Baretta models, but sold it for next to nothing once GnR/Grunge brought back Les Pauls. Love your content.

Congratulations on the new guitar. Sounds great! Still jealous of your Strat and Heritage. Are you using a cab sim or a mic on a speaker? If you’re using TwoNotes, what IR is your favourite?

Thanks mate! Always use a cab sim, TwoNotes Victory speaker, basically to match the tone I get from the rig played loud but I record my vids when the kids are asleep mostly so need to record silently :-)
