Final Fantasy VII - Tifa and Cloud in the Lifestream

This is the longest event sequence in the game. Cloud and Tifa have fallen into the Lifestream after Mideel was attacked by Ultimate Weapon causing the ground to crack open. While they are there they deal with Cloud's psychological issues and help him discover just who he really is.. and many more questions are also answered.

Want to know what "love" is? This is what love is. Tifa stayed by Cloud's side when it looked like he was a goner, then pieced him back together when he really was a goner. If this isn't a compelling case for the strength and power of love, then love doesn't exist.

Tifa stays by him 3 times in fact, she finds him in a weakened state at the station takes him in. Tifa finds him here in Mideel stays with him, while the rest of the party abandons him "Tifa chooses Cloud" maybe due to him being her sole connection to her past, but this scene reveals its actually love. She stays with him under the Highwind as he is all she really has, same goes for Cloud who realizes it there. Cloud and Tifa is one of the greatest romances in gaming.

@@kaage8780 Yep, Garnet ran from Brahne based on her own evidence, her own experience and her knowledge that staying is worse for herself, her mother, its citizens and the entire world. It aligned PERFECTLY (but coincidentally!! lol!) with her uncle's, Regent Cid of the other powerful trade nation Lindblum, plan to use the troupe Tantalus to "kidnap" her away from what HE, TOO, could tell was an increasingly psychopathic queen of Alexandria. The game proves both of these royals' decision to have Garnet leave and not return was the best choice for absolutely everyone involved. But Garnet has a sudden mood-switch and acts like a child, blowing off Zidane and ordering her personal knight to guide her back to the Queen just to talk to her and have no other goal whatsoever, thinking it'll all be fine despite all the compounding, building and extreme level of evidence proving at every step this was the wrong decision to make causing her mortal risk when she was otherwise entirely safe (and loved). All this ends with the completely obvious result: Garnet loses everything, MILLIONS if not more are murdered with absolutely no cause or reason why, specifically because of the impossibly powerful magic Garnet, herself, knew she would be giving directly to this queen. Destruction, all by ignorant and dismissive choice, which renders the entire first 2/3rds of the in-game political and social actions utterly pointless to no positive outcome, not to mention screwing up the love story. The last 1/3rd of the game is simply fantasy where nothing mattered to begin with, it was all just Kuja using emotions to kill everyone faster due to orders, the characters of the game all were completely irrelevant. Only the reaper and Garland's thousands upon thousands of years of experience mattered. But hey, pear-shaped ass, amirite?

"People have so many things pent up inside themselves. Things they can never forget." Tifa perfectly explains the theme of Cloud's struggle and even her own that makes so many people connect with this story. Terrible things happen to us, some in our control and some not. Move on but don't forget.

This is very deep material and Nobuo Uematsu is a genius. The doctor explains and the player can tell that being exposed to mako produces an altered state of consciousness that can become complete dissociation at a long enough exposure (Cloud is clearly not there, mumbling nonsense). The mako energy is psychoactive, and this whole sequence is basically Tifa helping Cloud through an extremely intense mental breakdown and catharsis. All of these constructed memories and missing pieces of his past in his subconscious mind are being brought to the surface because of the powerful psychoactive effect of the mako energy. Tifa has an ego-death experience of her own before finding Cloud, then she helps him through his. The music in this sequence perfectly conveys Cloud's anxiety about exploring his past and his fear of going over the edge. It perfectly conveys the fear of losing one's sanity during such an identity crisis. This is hands-down and by far the single strongest bonding experience between Cloud and Tifa. It's parts like this in the game that really make the characters come to life in our minds.

@@Zelink108 That's because it wasn't really about them as much as it was a reinforcement of the main theme. "You're not Alone" is the mainline of FF9 - as in, despite all the tragedy and absolutely despicable stuff, there are friends around you that are affected and know your troubles and it's important not to forget - and not to forget supporting each other. The game even opens with quotes like "You don't need a reason to help someone". It's maybe a little on the nose and definitely not as emotionally powerful as the Lifestream sequence, but it's very true to life and something everyone should know but easily forgets.

This for me is the single most intimate part of the game, even more than Highwind scene. It's a bonding experience between Cloud and Tifa unlike any opther, on soul level. But imo it's always so underrated. People always talk dates, affection levels, night under Highwind while arguing about relationships but I think THIS scene is the main argument.

Zidane breaking down into despair in ff9 was pretty good too. He was so far gone he abandoned the whole party and almost let kuja destroy everything. Celes almost committing suicide in ff6vl is another one. But yeah this moment in ff7 is still fantastic and still one hell of a twist even today. Seeing the true cloud find himself was brilliant. It's similar to losing yourself time after time in life and putting yourself back together and finding yourself..through trauma we can all lose things..even ourselves for a while.

Of course it was a better couple. Aerith wasn't in love with Cloud. Aerith was in love with Zack, and the circumstances about the Hojo experiments, making Cloud having the same personality of Zack, made Aerith see Cloud like he was Zack. This also explains itself on the Gold Saucer date between Cloud and Aerith, when at the end, she asks to him "...I want to meet the real you..." (because Aerith still illuded herself that perhaps Cloud was really Zack) Tifa, however, saw Cloud for what he always was, and this scene shows what real love is: it wasn't just Tifa saving Cloud or him discovering again that he saved her... It was way more than that... Let's say that Cloud finally opened himself to Tifa, saying that he wanted to become stronger to protect her, because he truly loved her.

Final Fantasy VII is the Story of Cloud STRIFE to Protect & Impress his Light(Tifa) In BC,CC,Dissidia,FFVII,KH,AC,&Other. The most hurtful moments for Cloud is when Sephiroth slaughter everyone in Nibelheim also when He tell him that Cloud is just Sephiroth Clone that was born from Hojo's lab and He just make Tifa hallucinating that boy named Cloud exist. I can only try to guess, but perhaps these were some of Tifa's deepest fears that she faced in her subconscious as Tifa fell in the Lifestream too. They might be memories when, as a kid, Tifa was falling at Mt. Nibel, and she called Cloud for help... Or when she lost her parents, like her mother... It can represent some traumas that Tifa crossed by.

Final Fantasy VII is the Story of Cloud STRIFE to Protect & Impress his Light(Tifa) In BC,CC,Dissidia,FFVII,KH,AC,&Other. The most hurtful moments for Cloud is when Sephiroth slaughter everyone in Nibelheim also when He tell him that Cloud is just Sephiroth's Clone that was born from Hojo's lab and He just make Tifa hallucinating that boy named Cloud exist. But Cloud looks so calm when Tseng slap Aerith & when he drown her in a lake.
