I play the Maltby TS3’s in the Nippon 950’s. I got them after Gabe’s original review of them. They’re clearly the best irons I have ever played in my life. The looks, feel, and playability is amazing. I have tried everything out there from the big names, including their most current stuff, and these irons eat their lunch. I especially love the playability of the long irons. They’re effortless. This says a lot from a 12 handicap. They are a lifetime set for me. Thanks Gabe! I wouldn’t have found them without your review.

@@stacks4943 I love them. Im playing the MMT 80 tapered tip which is a less common low-mid launch coming from modus 105 and have a bit more distance and accuracy is the same. Impact is not as harsh on the joint and you can still get good feedback on where you hit it o the face which isnt always the case with graphite shafts. Flight is perfect for me and the optimizer on trackman. The 125s would be great if you like a heavier shaft w mid launch, my scatter plot shrunk a bit.

Great to see Maltby irons getting some reviews. I upgraded from the TE Forged to the TS3's paired with ACCRA TZi 95g shafts in 2023. I wasn't able to try them prior to purchase as they weren't available in Canada and I imported them from the U.S. There was very little information to go on but based on playing TE Forged irons for 6-7 years I thought I'd pull the trigger. These were expensive mostly due to the shafts and comparable in price to the higher end brands. However in terms of performance this shaft head combination has been off the charts! I've dropped 4 strokes from better contact and better misses. Significant improvement over my TE Forged with Matrix Kujoh shafts. The 4 iron (which I struggled with in the TE Forged and other manufacturers) has become my favourite club. I've literally hit greens from 200+ yards out with tap in birdies - several times! It still surprises me a bit every time it happens. I've never has so much confidence in an iron set! The search for better irons is over as far as I'm concerned. This is it!

How are they?
@ianjcraigАй бұрын
@@jimmywallhanger8402 They are unbelievably good. I totally endorse the "God Tier" assessment. I got them with Project X LZ shafts, which was a little pricey, however I think the shafts are part of what feels so good. (I'd ordered a project X standard shaft with a TSI IM 6i. It felt so much harder and felt really heavy to swing although it was a XS/6.5 vs a S/6 in the X-LZ shafts). They look great, they're forgiving on hits that don't necessarily feel great, but with this shaft/head combo I'm hitting the center more often then my previous clubs. I couldn't be happier with these.

Love your videos my friend. I've been building clubs for myself and friends for nearly 25 years and Maltby never makes a truly bad club. Some are better than others as far as feel and distance go but they are always quality. I went away from DIY clubs for a while thinking there had to be something better from the OEM's and I found exactly two clubs in the last 15 years I enjoyed or played as well with as my Golfsmith and Maltby irons. The Taylormade P770 and the Titleist T100S and now T150. But I didn't play any better with them but equal to my DIY clubs. Golfsmith is long gone and my Maltby TE forged (The originals with the classic lofts!) on the KBS 125 gram stiffs were getting tiresome and losing distance as age and less playing time crept up on me. So I kept the T150's and their stronger lofts and lightweight steel shafts but there's so much fun in building your own that I couldn't resist and am building a set of TS'3's with the Nippon 950 lightweight steel shafts. After building a test 5 iron I'm not giving up anything to the Titleist and it will be fun to beat guys playing $2000 worth of clubs with my $700 set.

Well done pointing out Wilson Staff, Mizuno and Maltby Golf. I have used Maltby clubs for some time starting with the Logic Tradition (cast SS heads) on stepless Precision shafts). The heads look much like the TE+. I built these when younger and stronger so the shafts were cut midway between stiff and regular, selected because I liked that snap with a well struck ball. My thinking is to order a full set of TS3 with graphite shafts, this time with either a custom shop or club pack.

Always enjoy the reviews Gabe but I'd like to make a case for removing the "Value" category. If the ultimate goal with irons is to get the ball as close to the hole as possible how can value cause a club to rate better or worse? I can't think of a single sport where an athlete would think a cheaper piece of gear that performs worse would be considered better. People can obviously make a decision to buy based on price but a clubs ability to help a player play better should be how it's rated. Rewarding low price or penalizing a higher one is not rating on a level playing field. Just a thought.

@stephenmulvaney4843Ай бұрын
I tried to order the ts3's and they were always out of at least one of the irons despite ordering the pack so I switched to the ts1 it's and couldn't be happier. Mishist variances are minimal and center strikes feel like butter. The heel miss is the most punishing but still acceptable. I can't imagine the ts3's being any better honestly. I was concerned about jumpers due to hollow body construction but have not seen that and well struck shots are consistently about 8 yards further than my Titleist t150's

@@stephenmulvaney4843 I played the TS1 and TS3. The TS3 is unquestionably a superior feling and playing iron.

@@ughhstuff which one would be better for a 13 index? and did you play the ts1 or the ts1im?
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
@@mentallyillpartisan1362unquestionably my suggestion for the TS3's. I'm around a 7 hdcp. I've played all of the Maltby forged clubs and the TS3's are my favorite with the TS4's just right behind them. The TS3's cover such a broad range in player skill level and undoubtedly the best in the feel department. At 13 index you could easily play them into single digits and get everything you need from them along the way.
@apav0519Ай бұрын
Is there anywhere you could go that would include Maltby as an option to compare against the big brands in an iron fitting?
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
Maltby posts all of their specs for each club. What you can do is find the club you think you're interested in and then look for an OEM with similar specs and design characteristics. Then get fit for that specific club. The lofts may vary by a degree or 2 but at least you'll get the lie and lengths figured out
@apav0519Ай бұрын
I'm more interested in seeing dispersion though, and obviously looks and feel are subjective, so there's that too. I'm especually particular about looks at address.
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
@@apav0519 another option with Maltby is to order a single club. You can then take it for a lie adjustment to dial it in. If you like it, you can apply the cost towards a Pak set.

Would a 20 HCP still be able to game the TS3s and not have many issues? I did the online fitting on golfworks and they recommended the ts3’s.
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
They may be a stretch but they are engineered to play way more forgiving than they look. For reference, I'm around a 6 hdcp, and my father is north of 20. We both play the same clubs. They do everything that I need them to do and he's able to play and enjoy them at his level. The great thing is that if you get them now, they can easily carry you through your golf journey and into single digits if that's your goal.

Based on your review and previous Maltby MO-5 experience, I will be ordering a TS3 pak, am I taking a chance with the Score shafts?
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
I would say that the Score shafts are great for 85% of golfers. It's a very friendly profile. Higher flight but very stable and smooth profile. Good spin but could be a bit much for some swings. For me personally, when I had them in the TS1-IM's, they launched a bit too high for my liking and accentuated the low CG design of the Maltby heads.. but that's with my swing. Hopefully that was somewhat helpful.

Oh boy, TS-3’s for mid to scratch golfers you say? I might have made a mistake ordering these for myself. But I just received these last week; 6 iron thru gap wedge, and I was able to hit them just fine, nice and straight! Well he did rank them high in forgiveness. So maybe this third year golfer will be able to grow with them as well.
@AZstu324Ай бұрын
Naw man you picked the perfect set! Based on how Maltby grades and designs their clubs on CG and MOI placement, these could be played by most golfers if they comfortably suit their eye. As your game grows, these will perform well at every level. You could play them down to scratch and still have everything you need.
@kimm8675Ай бұрын
This is great to hear! Thanks for your reply. They will be able to grow with me. I paired them with KBS Max shafts, senior flex. I did get the 5 iron too, but I benched it. I couldn’t hit it consistently as I do the 6 thru gap. Using a 9 wood to replace that club.
