First of all, a bad way to start a chapter on polite phrases to describe looks of people. There are better euphemisms to convey that meaning. In fact, none of the words that the trainer has listed are polite. They are impolite in their own right. Plain and unfortunate in appearance are possibly better than the ones listed. There are a lot more.
