I'm a 77 year old lad, the son of a Scotsman, living in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I thoroughly enjoyed your intriguing video that took me on a fascinating walking tour of Lerwick. What a wonderful wee toon it is. The buildings have survived so many generations and are beautifully preserved and maintained. No graffiti and the surrounding streets are clean and neat. The local people obviously take pride in their heritage. How refreshing that is in what has become a grubby world community. Thank you so very much for your efforts.

It is a wonderful place - as you say the history is preserved amazingly, and the streets certainly are spick and span! A great place to visit - and thank you so much for watching :)

What a wonderful tour of Lerwick! The 4K footage really brings the beauty of Shetland to life, and the narration adds so much depth to the history and charm of the town. It was such a peaceful and informative walk through this unique part of Scotland. Thanks for sharing this beautiful experience with us! Best wishes, Chiara & Donato Fuoridalsentiero!

Very interesting. I knew that building was Jimmy Perez's house as soon as I saw it. Nice to have background history to it. I would love to visit Shetland but I live in Australia, I am old with lung problems and cannot travel by plane so it's not likely that I ever will. Thank you for your lovely informative and well narrated video.

Thank you for this. It really felt like I was there! I have enjoyed the TV series immensely (and have the DVDs to watch back home here in Australia) which have increased my interest in visiting this beautiful part of Scotland. I have visited many parts of Scotland over the past 15 years including some of the outer hebrides and the orkneys and so now Shetland is definitely on my list of places to go. Great walking pace too xx

We visited Scotland last fall, spending 3 weeks touring around the country. Sadly we didn't include the Shetlands in our itinerary but we are already making plans to amend that. We of course love the show, and lately we are falling in love with the Shetland fiddle sound and folk music which we recognize as the inspiration for the Appalachian old time sound I was raised on. Great content!

Wonder if 'The Happy Haddock' fish and chip shop is still there. Or the pet shop. Stayed at a B&B with a couple of friends many years ago at Shetland. Must dig the photos out. Thank you for the tour and bringing back happy memories. Except now I feel really old!

It seems so! I did have some fish and chips in my time in Lerwick - but at one just by Fort Charlotte (it was great!). Hope you had a great time when you visited and glad to hear this tour brought back some memories :) Thanks for watching!

I am very surprised to see Lerwick because I recently have written a novel of which background is Lerwick. So, I need a much of information all about Lerwick and your video provides that information exactly.(of course, I have written that novel in Korean, not in English.) Anyway, I always thank you for great video.(I am not good at writing in English)

Oh wow that's amazing! Sounds like an interesting project - hopefully this video has shown you some interesting points about Lerwick :) And don't worry about your English - it's great (감사합니다!)

Sounds as though the Victorians really destroyed the 'auld toon'. Imagine had they left it alone, it would be one of the most spectacular harbour towns in Europe. Great video thanks. A trip to to the Orkneys & Shetland is in the plans; ideally in the off-season when they're not maggoty with tourists.

I live in Lerwick and that’s how it’s pronounced. It’s Ler-wick, not that silly slang rubbish you hear on the Shetland/Jimmy Perez programme “Ler-ick”. And we’re not Scotland!.

Lerwick is as old and depressing as Scotland's grim weather, two go hand in hand
@thra5herxb12sАй бұрын
I never heard it called Lerrick before. I'm sure it's not right.
@glennsunman9859Ай бұрын
It’s not pronounced “ Lerrick”. The indigenes pronounce every syllable as in Lerwick . I know that in England some names ending in “wick” do get corrupted in a local vernacular to drop the “w” such as in Alnwick but in Scotland all syllables are generally pronounced.
@RidleyWhitfieldАй бұрын
At least get the name right. It’s Lerwick pronouncing the “w”.
@janetpendlebury6808Ай бұрын
I believe both pronunciations are correct.
@poppyrowland1385Ай бұрын

I mean, if you're the type of person that insists on pronouncing the 'p' in "pterodactyl", I guess you can try and take the high ground on this technicality. Locally, though, "Lerrick" is a very much softened version of a more traditional "Leyrook".
@jackmckinnon320828 күн бұрын
Lerick ??? Can you no read man ????? And the English wonder why were no too friendly at times ?? I canna wonder
