As a Geordie based in Hong Kong for 10 years (another incredible city), it’s safe to say I’ve been about a bit, yet, I can’t help but agree Newcastle is the best city in the world. The mixture of the architecture, the warm atmosphere, the diversity of people and the crisp fresh air, just make it such a brilliant place. Got a bit homesick watching this 😂

Is it nicer than Hong Kong or Singapore?

Yeh but Hong Kong (maybe it will change) just seemed to work so well.

@@jakehowie442 Singapore isn’t in my top ten to be honest. It’s a pretty place but it’s boring and stuffy. Hong Kong is epic, but as far as welcoming and friendliness goes it’s a close second to Newcastle. Air quality here is rubbish. Also the government here is “a bit much”.

@@LetsWalkUK Do you actually live (or lived) in Newcastle? We are thinking to probably move there with my partner, but still think of what to choose, between Manchester and Newcastle...🤔 I'm not a big fan of Manchester, tbh, I find them a bit too..... chav-ish, so to say. I'm really sorry, no offense to anyone, but I didn't feel extremely safe there when we stayed there for a whole month, even in the city center. Newcastle seemed way friendlier and kinda more safe, however we didn't manage to stay in Newcastle for more than just few days...

Thank you for this great video of a city I love. I'm originally from Wallsend but always proud to say that my 'home city' is Newcastle. I now live in Canada but this video made me feel like I was walking around the city. There were two or three disappointments though because you left out some important landmarks which deserved a mention at least! The beautiful Theatre Royal,... Bessie Surtees House near the Quay Side....and even though you were on Grainger Street we didn't get a mention of the Grainger Market! Also would have thought you would have shown the Civic Centre, and Hancock Museum which are important buildings. However overall it was a very good video even though it made me homesick! Hi there, Thank you very much for such a beautiful video showcasing part of our beloved Newcastle and a nice look at Gateshead over the Tyne. I know people have said you should have shown this or that, but I was so impressed with how much you DID show in less than an hours walk was phenomenal and was very impressed with your detailed research. You obviously care for what you do and appreciated the respect shown for our beautiful and varied architecture and history. You could probably do a 6hr video and still not show everything but you gave people a taster of how beautiful, vibrant and welcoming it is up here! Nightlife is second to none with bars and nighclubs galore and restaurants covering cuisine from around the world. i think for the short time you had, you did a fantastic job. You are welcome back anytime! I hope you had a nice cold pint after that walk, maybe even a Bottle of Broon (what locals call Newcastle Brown Ale which is exported around the world.) take care and stay safe 🙂 xxx

This is one of the best walk-a-logs of Newcastle that i have seen, great stuff. Perhaps just outside your scope is the Summerhill Park area, what an amazing gem of a neighbourhood like a little chunk of posh London plonked here.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video - Newcastle is an incredible place and as you say there's certainly a lot more to discover than just the city centre! Maybe one day I'll visit Summerhill Park and make a video there if you'd like to see it :)

@@LetsWalkUK Yes sure, Newcastle is my home town but I am now living in Singapore since '93. I must say your videos are a great advert for 'where to live in the UK' each city/town featured the walk is so informative, it is the real deal.

@@lippywong4181 That's so kind of you to say! I do hope that you're enjoying these videos - there's certainly a lot more to our country than meets the eye :) And maybe one day I'll get the chance to make a video in shiny Singapore too!

Heading to Newcastle for 2 days sightseeing so watched your walk in full, thanks. Very interesting commentary. Glad you now do voice-overs instead of subtitles, because it’s hard to view the scenery and read at the same time 👍.

You have to look at the old architecture and building and just think how the fook did they manage to build them back in the 1100’s and the 1400’s like how did they manage to get the spires right at the top without the use of cranes etc, it just blows your mind!! It’s incredible.
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Some of the buildings in Newcastle are absolutely incredible, especially that spire on the Cathedral. But as we know, Newcastle is one of the cradles of British engineering, so if it's going to work anywhere, it will work in Newcastle! What an excellent video. Mix of fact laced with a bit of humor. Impressive capture of the city. Missed out on the pub where James I went for his pint every day, and the Vampire Rabbit, otherwise very enjoyable.. Is it the best city in the world? Probably not but you'll have a damn good time!

I've watched a few of these on Newcastle and frankly a lot of them are annoying portraying the universal stereotypes of Geordies, with dross soundtracks / voiceovers not so with yours, thank you

Really enjoyed this - made me feel even more proud to be a Geordie! However, I’d wished you’d mentioned Bessie Surtee’s house and/or the Cooperage which are original Tudor buildings with amazing history on the Quayside. Also the Guildhall where you ended your walk has a long and rich history. Finally, I agree with another comment regarding going the other way down Grey Street to include the Theatre Royal. I think there’s just too much to cram in!
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, you're more than right to be a very proud Geordie! As you say, there's just so much to see in Newcastle, so I'm very sorry to have missed out on a couple of things, but I'm very grateful that you've pointed them out here for us, it's always good to learn more and more about this great city :)

My Dad lived in BS house in 1976... on second floor. I was a child then and it was a very scary place to stay.. the room overlooking the street had a massive open fire place and was wood panelled.
