Looking back on this film, after almost 8 years. I learned a lot of really good lessons. I've been amazed at all of the feedback I've received from this film, and have loved seeing other peoples interpretation on this film. Though I see a lot of flaws in it now, it still helped lay a framework that I can see as my identity, and overall, I'm proud of what young 14 year old me was able to make in a couple hours of shooting and a couple days of editing.

Not clear what this is about so hard to say whether it was worth doing. It's one of those rare films though that is so well done that you wish you knew more surely what it was about and had more to go on to say whether it was worth it. It's easy to guess what the "story" is, or could be at least. And given the quality of what was included in this award-winning final cut you wish there would have been more of the story told. Undeveloped, anti-realistic, short works are almost always like this.

The film was well shot. Lighting, camera angles etc. all very clear. The exposition was absent I think. I had no idea who was who. I thought the girl was his sister since he looked gay, lol. There was no established connection between him and the couple's fight. Why buy a gun? I thought it was for her. Wasn't it her who shot the guy in the foyer? Or colonel mustard with the rope in the library? I see its from 2015, I must see more recent work. Your writing has to have improved since then.

Honestly, this is so much better than any of the half baked garbage that we’ve been getting for the Kiwanis film festival the past few years (I’m even a bit guilty of this). We need more filmmakers like yourself.

I actually like the concept of this short movie. I think it's nicely done in terms of shooting and color, plus the leading actor shows quite some skills. The weakest point in my opinion is the script. I understand how important is to left some things "open to interpretation & debate". However, it's hard to debate when there are no facts to substain any idea.

I believe people don't get it because it's not about that, it's about interpreting it your own way, much like life itself, what is truth to one is not necessarily the truth for another, truth belongs to no man, it does not belong to me or to you, truth needs nothing but it's own, the truth just is and most of life is based on an illusion that one believes when in fact, nothing is ever what it appears to be on the surface. If what we think we know can be summed up as a Drop, then what we don't know becomes an Ocean. and it's with this perspective that we can all learn to remain open-minded, just not so open that our brains fall out

So much for the credibility of film awards of the Idaho Falls Kiwanis Teen Film Festival.... This is such a massive fail one can only wonder at either what the other entries were, or the taste of the judges. It is next to completely unclear, relies upon the cheapest kind of upon false tension to keep it going (even fast-forwarding it and jumping ahead or watching it at 1.5 times running speed does not relieve or help this), and the list goes on and on and on. Sure, beginning artists all gotta start somewhere; this film getting any kind of award is like that overly PC idea of telling every kindergarten age child their artworks are masterpieces, which perhaps sends a delusional message to this film maker and other young beginners. Take it down, save yourself some embarrassment, and go on to make the next, hopefully improved, little film.

MuseDuCafe Thanks for being honest. I don’t think you’re wrong. This short had many flaws and I get that. I don’t pretend it’s a masterpiece since I won a tiny award, and because of that, I hold it high. I’m proud for what I accomplished in about 4 hours and a couple days of editing. The amount I was able to learn from this was really great. The script looks very different than what it ended up being. So many of the scenes were cut or altered completely because of time, and some of the scenes couldn’t recover from it. But why should I be ashamed of it? I know what it is, and the problems with it. Putting it out like this doesn’t take anything away from me. And having a community of people give their opinion helps me to understand an audience better so that I can improve. Plus, what did I have to lose? I was just 14 and experimenting with ideas. Thanks again for the feedback. Cheers, mate!

Thank you for taking that so well and not being defensive about it. It was, shall I say, a valiant attempt. I imagine also, that however good your school(s) that there is not some high level of instruction (or enough interested to warrant hiring a stellar instructor for film-writing or film-making. (I am a severe critic, including when it comes to my own endeavors -- music, music comp -- and was trained from childhood in that, with very demanding but reasonable teachers from the first lesson and all the way through.) The general climate today, meant to encourage, can have people's work garnering small local awards, and those mistaken as a stamp of approval that the work awarded the prize is 'great.' I'm happy you know what is what there, because the minute you get to, say, a college with a strong film department, the level of expectations (and the caliber of the teaching) ramp up considerably from a local Kiwanis group ;-). We learn from our mistakes, stuff we make that does not work. Meanwhile, read, read, read and then watch. Read about writing a clear screenplay, films, screenplays of very successful films, including older classics (I remember reading four screenplays by Ingmar Bergman), read plays, then watch whichever those are. It will come to you, again through more learning and experience. I pretty much guessed your intent, meaning there was just enough there to decipher what you were going for -- ergo not a complete fail. I'm big on clarity; even if you're putting forth something deliberately ambiguous, that has to somehow be clear. Don't give up, that's for sure. Best regards.
