Bob can do whatever he wants. He's Deniro! An he really doesn't like doing interviews. Deniro and Hoffman are icons. I thought this was fun, and, Dave Letterman was lucky to have them on his show. I dont think DeNiro likes to verbalize the experiences of being an actor. He feels it and internalizes it, understands what he's doing with regards to preparation and execution, but doesn't (and often is unable to) wrap it up into neatly digestible words. There are lots of actors and musicians like this. They are artists, not talk show guests.

Non-comedians will never know how hard it is to try to make an entertaining bit when the person beside you is flat. It’s one of the hardest things you can do and only the best Comedian can do it. I commend Dave for being able to pull it off. Johnny Carson used to ban people from the show for acting the same way. Dave played on it. The funny thing is, had Dinero not been laid-back and quiet… The whole segment would not have come off as entertaining. It could’ve been disastrous. I commend all three. I’m sure Dinero actually really enjoyed this. You could see him breaking a smile every once in a while. Probably second-guessing his history of not appearing on the show. I’m going to guess that it was in loyalty to Johnny… Or maybe he just for whatever reason had preconceived notions about Dave. Definitely hilarious.

I remember seeing this when aired, you thought it was totally going off the rails but the fault lines translated into gold by the end. If they hurried the segment it would've died.

Letterman may have his faults, and he has, like talking over guests, making jokes at their expense, but you can not take away how expertly he shaped this interview, based on these two screen legends, with very different attitudes and approaches, but equally profoundly talented and skilful. This interview comes close to perfection, the end result being that both stars shone bright in each their own particular, very different way.

What an interview, I couldn't think of a better interviewer than Dave, he was respectfully reverential, (rightfully so), towards these living legends.

These 2 are so special....off screen they're so witty and interesting. Even though they really are not particularly talkative. And Letterman is great at interviewing " quiet " personalities.

Robert de Niro is my lifelong HERO..What a Champ! Dustin Hoffmanns Voice is just marvelous! He speaks like a guy from the Radio - deep and with big confidence. But the more i ADORE the Silence of Robert. What a great charming guy with his smile and his smirking face. 🥰🤗❤👍 I would love to mention something about Elvis Presley`s acting journey - but i KNOW what will come after that - unfortunately. He is not taken serious as an Actor for a reason...but actually especially his Movie "King Creole" was very appreciated from all critics. The Role he played there was meant to be for JAMES DEAN...but he died way too early. Also Elvis`s first Film "Love me Tender" was the most successful Film in the Year 1956. Ofcourse Elvis never won an Oscar, but he also NEVER got the chance to really act like he would have loved too and was capable of - when you hear what several Actingpartners said about him. He was capable and able to adapt any emotion - but HIS MANAGER and i think Hollywood itself didn`t want him to get a real honest chance to show what he could do in a SERIOUS Dramarole. It`s a real sad Story. After all Elvis was the most busy Actor in Hollywood in the Sixties and almost all his mostly mediocre "Elvis meets Girls" Movies where highly successfull at the Box-Office. I know for sure that he HATED ALL his Films in the Sixties and he was devastated at the End of his Filmcarreer - because ofcourse no one took his Movies serious anymore. I bet Robert de Niro and Dustin Hoffmann met Elvis many times at the Paramount or MGM-Studios, because EP made 3 Films a Year. Impossible that he didn`t meet all the other REAL Actors. Anyway...Sorry for all these Elvis thoughts. It`s just sad in so many ways, because he really had the ambition to become a seriuous Actor. He said that in his first Interview after his time in the Army - in 1960 and he saw it as the biggest Failure of his Carreer that he never achieved anything great as an Actor.

Just because your an actor doesn't mean you are an outgoing chatty guy with big personality. De niro clearly feels awkward in these instances. Alot of actors go into acting for that very reason. They feel comfortable as someone else

So funny....those guys are the greatest actors on earth although they are kind of shy when they have to talk about themselves. No need to play a role here, they are just themselves, which makes this interview great actually.
