My highschool sweetheart was a wonderful young man named Joe Mendoza (Hardcore Joe for those who knew him) and he basically was Heath Ledger's character in 10 Things I Hate About You. The spitting image and personality to match. Lord king god of the metalheads. All the guys wanted to be him and all the girls wanted to date him. Such a heartbreaker. Beyond anything romantic, we had a deep friendship that I can honestly say saved my life. Joe passed away at a tragically young age because he stepped in to save the lives of two of our other best friends (they were attacked and Joe bought them enough time to run for help.) He died on Valentine's Day maybe a couple years before Heath Ledger met his own sad end. Whenever I watch this movie I remember Joe and thank God for the blessing of having had him in my life. He was such a bright light in the world. RIP sweetheart

I've seen this movie for the first time on New Year's Eve 2001/2002 (7th grade) at a sleepover with my friends. I had a massive crush on Heath after that😅 he passed away way to soon, still had so much life ahead of him :(
