Thanks Andy - this run takes me back! In the early 1960's I was stationed at Benson, so got to explore a lot of the nice roads in the region. Ok, it was on my Jawa 250, but it was still fun, as I don't have to travel at warp speed to enjoy motorcycling, though I've owned up to 750's and ridden up to 1800's. Now in my 78th year and still riding - and still on a 250! Stay upright and enjoy the ride. 👍

Mr Flyer, again your reviews have given me the knowledge I need to make a proper buy decision. I have had the New Monster SP on my radar ever since it was announced. I will be picking up mine on Friday. It will keep my Street Triple RS good company. We live in the best of times when it comes to motorcycles. The engineering and components used today are light years ahead of the bikes that were available back when I first started riding in the seventies. My first Ducati. I cannot wait. Good luck. Keep up the good work.

Having owned both an aircooled S2R1000 Monster and the Testastretta powered S4RS, I can truthfully say, years later, that there isn't a day goes by that I don't have a memory of riding one or both of them, and I miss them like I miss many a beloved, departed pet. Monsters are fun, and have a great ride feeling and the absolute perfect balance of styling. I had the trellis generation bikes, but have ridden many aluminum framed sport bikes since, and understand their superiority. The SP now is the equivalent of the RS with the better brakes , lighter wheels, and those magical Ohlins suspenders! I remember so many of the great old days, commuting in 30+ weather, heavy traffic, and roasting the insides of your thighs, perfectly balanced by a blast up one of our local mountain roads after work. I really miss that...

I used to own S4R and then got the Supersport S, which has the same engine as the Monster SP, same ohlins and brembo bling and I must say, I'm not in love with the engine. I since bought the S4RS and still have the Supersport S and even though the 937cc engine on the Supersport (and the current Monster SP) is very good, the old 998cc on my S4RS feels infinitely more fun. It's about 30% more powerful and responsive in lower revs and the seating position of the old Monsters suits my body type a lot better I feel. I don't mind the new frame, I'm just waiting for them to put a 1200 engine in the Monster, so that it would truly be compatible with the old S4RS power wise
@morri03
@morri03 Жыл бұрын
@@MrTipusssagreed my S4RS has 132hp at the wheel and looks miles better than the 939 monster. Also plenty of reviews point out the ohlins on the sp is way too firm for the road. I think they look ugly and are pretty expensive for what you get.

I totally agree with your findings. I had the earlier version (2022) of the SP937 Monster and enjoyed it a lot but traded it on the V2S Multistrada, to use for touring. I always like to have a Ducati in my garage. I tried the Street Fighter V4S before the Multi but preferred the ergonomics of the Multi V2S and as much as I thought the street fighter was a great bike I found that I did not require all that power on New Zealand roads and wanted to keep my drivers licence. I also enjoy my Speed Twin 1200 after I had the seat re-done with a gel insert.

A bit late with my comment, but... I took delivery of my Monster SP July 2023. I love it. The only complaint is that for me 6' 2", average build, the mirrors are useless. I couldn't see cars close to my rear end as no matter how I adjusted them the majority of the view was of my arms & shoulders. I replaced them with bar end mirrors and it solved the problem. Now checking the weather forecast on a daily basis looking for a day to get back out in sunny Aberdeenshire. This one is a keeper.

Dream bike, so glad I went with Ducati... if I may offer some advice to anyone who owns one of these machines: get it tuned, get the decat and exhaust sorted and you'll have a totally different bike. A severe drawback is how sedated they are when you get them new, but with a little love, these bikes roar and they're absolutely worth it! All the best and forge on!

Hi Andy, Thanks for the video. Like you, I cycle between more sensible machines (Honda, Triumph, BMW) and Ducatis. I went to test a Desert X and came away with a Monster SP. Previously owned a Monster 821 and loved the engine but not so much the suspension. I did consider the new street triple RS (having owned a street in the past), which on paper is probably a better machine with similar brakes and suspension for less money. The Monster 937 sp is more fun more of the time and is really usable on the road. Like all Ducatis it comes with some foibles as you mentioned in your vlog. Seat is firm but my bottom is getting used to it. The seating position is reasonable with a slight lean forward but less than the 821, and allows good front end feel. Range is around 150 miles, so 130 to fill up with hard shoulder avoidance. Quickshifter works but is not really needed unless on upshifts unless you're in a hurry. Downshifts work well and are more fun as you get a burble on the overrun. Finish is excellent with deep paint and lacquered in decals (Stickers are a pet hate of mine). A little too much plastic covering the V twin and some exposed wiring that Ducati should have addressed on such a premium machine. Price is an issue as it is considerably more pounds than the nearest rivals and down on power. Not that it needs more power, but you are certainly paying a premium for Italianness. That said, in a few years, plenty of very sensible people will own the latest Street Trip, or MT09 sp or other rivals but the Monster sp will remain a rare beast and still feel special. Shallow maybe but it's good to feel a bit different even if the choice is not altogether financially sensible. However, this is a bike that gets wheeled out more often and for no other reason than it is light and an absolute joy to ride. I have put more miles on it in 6 months than I did on my previous bike in 2 years (Triumph Thruxton RS). Grin factor is certainly wicked up to a 10. Best of all is the intuitive handling which feels similar to a 250 machine on B roads. It really does go where you want it to at any speed without drama. I can reach corners later and if a little too hot, the brakes and exemplary road holding sort everything out without any scary moments or much thought, leaving me wondering if I could have gone even quicker through the bend. It really is that good. The many electronics have yet to be tested as the brakes, tyres and suspension are truly impressive. Some of the electonic features are a bit pointless such as launch control and track timer. Give me cruise instead for all the average speed sections of our road network. Probably not the best tourer but with a tank bag and tail pack, I am going to give it a go as when you arrive at the destination, this is a machine you want to be on for twisty B roads or mountain switch backs. Not certain if I will want more comfort as time passes but I can happily commute on this machine in milder weather without fuss. Could do with cruise (all bikes at this price should have this now) and heated grips. A keeper for now!

Hello! It's me again (Hipster/Submariner man). Just read your comments. You make some valid points. However, I do believe you need to tone down the 'specialness quotient' somewhat. You are aware that Ducati are owned by Lamborghini, who are in turn owned by Audi, who are in turn owned by, none other than, Volkswagen? This is the last time I will communicate with you. I do sincerely wish you well on this bike and hope you continue to feel 'special' on your VAG motorcycle. Bye.

Hi Mark, Apologies if my previous reply was over the top and made silly assumptions. It’s not my intention to upset anyone on social media and I know nothing about you or your personal biking likes/dislikes. I admit to having confirmation bias for my choice of bike but don’t we all feel the machine we chose after much research is a bit special. I agree that like most brands Ducati are part of a big conglomerate and the Italian thing is a bit of a construct just like Triumph. Hope you are enjoying whatever your current ride is and stay shiny side up. Take care and with best wishes. Happy riding.

Good evening Andy, Nice to see another and beautiful part of the UK this time. I don’t like too much vibrations in the handlebars; I will get numb hands after a while. I always get a bit numb hands but that’s after several hours of riding. What I heard so far and what I remember of the first video, it’s not the bike for me. It’s a naked bike and I want weather protection. I want luggage capacity. I don’t need a hooligan bike, I’m too old for that 😅. Yeah, the crawly creepers that somehow always seem to get on the inside of your helmet. I always wear a helmet cap and I wear the neck tube over my mouth and ears, that helps a lot.

Morning Andy, I’m not sure about hairdresser reference given your follicle challenged racing slick head status, like me I doubt you’ve been near one for years😋 You might want to give Wales a miss from Sept as the ridiculous blanket 20mph speed limit comes into force for urban areas including towns and villages. On the range of the Ducati, I had a Honda Hornet 600 which had a range of 90 to 100 miles on a tank and a Harley 883 flat tracker replica with a similar range that I rode across Spain from north to south. Mind you 80-100 miles was about the most you could do on that without stopping anyway.

Nice vid TMF. I really like this bike. It seems perfectly suited for a really fum road ride without being overwhelming. It seems to have just about the right balance of everything you need. Although as much as I like the SP, it is a little bit pricey imo so I will check out the base model to see what I make of that first. The lack of adjustable suspension on that bugs me a bit, but in truth I'm sure it's more than adequate as I'm just not that good a rider that I need a full Ohlins set up....but as a paying customer I'd still like it.

The vibration may be from the loose chain if it's under 600 miles, after the first service the chain will be tightened up, and the vibration sure is far less. Awesome video 👌🏾

Well done mr Flyer! And wise words at the end. Well, especially them! When you Brits talk about National speed limit...what is the speed limit then? I've been to England, Scotland and Wales a couple of times and there are some lovely roads and scenery. What I find difficult to like are those potholes and all those hedges and bushes along the roads. And in the south...the traffic! Oh, and all those parked cars! Oh dear, listen to me... Thank you mr Flyer!

ha, should try a great festering wing'ed maggot bag - an Australian Blowfly, fresh from something pestilent and runny on the side of the road, and with shiny new brown thigh highs for added effect, hitting the edge of my chin piece at ~ 100km/h. It exploded of course, and got everywhere, eyes(in) , nose (up), teeth(over) and throat (down). Marvellous, and in traffic too, so couldn't pull up right a way with (seemingly) millions of smelly wrigglers EVERYWHERE. Didn't ride for a bit after that, took a lot of JD to kill the bugs, and heal the trauma ...

On my test ride I felt the Monster had quite of bit of vibration in the feet and hands. I owned a KTM 790 at the time which was butter smooth and decided to keep it rather than upgrade to the Monster. Sadly I'm too short to feel comfortable on a Multistrada.

Unusual for a 90 degree V twin to be as buzzy as you mentioned. As the gentleman below said, perhaps it's due to a stifling exhaust. My own Suzuki was awful before its standard cans were junked and a PC3 fitted with a stint on a dyno.

I find it interesting you refer to the monster bing a little super moto. As someone who doesn’t get to ride a lot of bikes would you be able to comment for me or even do a bit of a video comparison on the ergonomics and style of different bikes and what they are good for in your opinion. For example I rode a Harley once and was surprised how different it felt. it was a little uncomfortable for me coming off a naked bike but loved how it put me in a cruising state of mind. I’m really curious about how different styles can encourage different styles of riding.
