The last dessert you ate is called Halva. There are a few different types of Halva. But this one is made from toasted semolina and a honey syrup. Usually we put almonds and cinnamon on it too. I make this at home it is pretty simple. I love to add some orange zest.

I went on a trip to Greece with my school and we all received a plate of halva for dessert. Everyone hated it but because I was the only Greek in class and of course loved halva, everyone slid their plates my way to finish it off and I was in heaven 😂

The dessert in the end is halva, and it's amazing! it's such a multicultural food and it's apparent in many cuisines: Greek, Turkish, Pakistani and many more! This particular one is made from semolina, there are many many more kinds of halva (for example the one that's made from sesame) and I hope you'll get to try them all! That cheese frita thing you had may have been halloumi. It’s a very popular cheese in Greece and it doesn’t melt and squeaks when you bite into it coz of it’s rubbery texture.

Ughhh this had my mouth watering the entire time, I used to work at a Greek restaurant and I loved sneaking dolmas sometimes or just grabbing some pita bread, warm it up in the oven for a minute or two, then dipping it in some home made tzatziki sauce 🤤🤤🤤 so simple yet such a perfect little pick me up snack

The “Stuffed grape leaves” are actually Tolma (or Dolma) and it’s an Armenia dish, so as an Armenian I’m really glad you liked them. We also make other versions with the same filling put in eggplant, zucchini, bell pepper, and also wrapped in cabbage!

Greeks (Alexander the Great), Armenians (Armenian Kingdom), Assyrians/Levantine Arabs (Assyrian Empire, Phoenicians etc.) Kurds/Persians (Median Empire, Persian Empire, Sassanid Empire etc.) All these people already had their traditional dishes such as Lahmacun which is called „turkish“ pizza while the Assyrians had a recipe for it 2000 years ago & even the name is semetic not Turkic. Also my favorite example: Pickles (Turşu) which is iranic (kurdish/persian) which comes from the name sour - tirş/turş (in Kurdish/Farsi). I just cant get over that these are all turkish meals. Let me write down their names: mücver kızartma (the zucchini one) sarma (stuffed with rice) patlıcan oturtma (eggplant one) Izgara köfte (kebab) irmik helvası (dessert)
