It's not about musical perfection- it's about conveying emotion in every moment. Like the song is moving through her instead of her performing it. Amazing.

My dad gave me a cassette tape of Nina Simone when I was little. In later years he went deaf and died several years after that of liver failure following a long time of silence and loneliness. I listen to this and cry for the haunting voice and beauty of the song and for remembering my dad. I hope in some place he can hear this again. RIP Nina and Dad.

I had first heard this song in Johnny Mathis' rendition back in 1957-58 in Russia and fell for it. Never thought it could be sung better. Until, in late 80s, I heard David Bowie singing this tune (written as it turned to be by Dimitri Tiomkin, waw!) and thought it was just stunning. Today, 20 years as in another century, I hear it for the first time from Nina Simone. And I think to myself, there is no sky limits for individual person's perfection. Alas, only for individual yet. They keep on making our days and compensate for big sustained imperfections. Our own, too.

Nina Simone is not an artist that you can simply listen to. You must hear her. You must understand her. She is not always peaceful. She is not always understood, but within these different moments, she is loved for who she is. angry.. deeply felt.. complex.. dark.. and ever fascinating.. like a kaleidoscope.. she will forever be the High Priestess of Soul. Her music.. it’s something to allow to tinkle in the background on a rainy night.. just let her words rain upon you..

Silk, a natural fabric spun from caterpillars. That is the only way to describe the voice of Nina Simone. No one can sing, or look like her. Her beauty, no one can hold a candle to her. To make a movie of her life... only an angel from Haven could play her part. No human will ever sing like Nina Simone. She was God sent. So sad knowing that music today, will never know what music really is. The greats are gone to Haven.
