Just a quick question- the comedy of say Louis CK and Sebastian M utilise a very different approach to the shattering of expectations/assumptions formula you always come back to. How do they fit into the fundamentals of joke writing that you focus on?
@mccallajokes11 ай бұрын
do they really?
@gregdeancomedy11 ай бұрын
You haven't read all of my work. There's a whole class of jokes where the setup is common knowledge. They shatter those assumptions which are already in our heads, not just the ones presented in the setup. Great question.

Hey professor I did 4 bringers show for big bo the comedian He made $3,000 off the shows Didn't give the comedians nothing YUO SAID STAY AWAY FROM THOSE BRINGER SHOW I didn't listen , should have I paid out my pocket for the bringers shows I will whether be spending my money for your stand up comedy classes.
@gregdeancomedy10 ай бұрын
Sorry that happened, but lesson well learned. There are some bringers worth doing, but make sure there's something in it for you. Like you're on the bill with a famous comedian you want to get to know or it's a good showcase for you if an agent wants to see your work. To get stage time you can always start your own small open mic. Keep at it.

I'm working through your material. Can you cover what qualifies as joke stealing? A troll on social media attacked me saying I stole a joke. I got defensive because I wrote my joke by myself (and very hurt). And the joke she mentioned is similar that it also talks about constipation in context of a crime. so at 20,000ft view the premise is similar that way. But otherwise very different. Now I'm obsessing about it - what makes a joke a stolen joke... and I'm afraid of trolls now too.
@gregdeancomedy11 ай бұрын
If the person that wrote it says it's exactly like their joke. Otherwise, f#ck whoever said you were stealing, especially if you know it was original. I've had people tell me someone was stealing my material, so I watch their show. It had the same subject matter, that's it. Don't listen to others unless it's the author of the joke. If a joke is truly original, just ignore the accusations as they are usually misinformed. Be true to yourself.
