Hi, thanks for subscribing. You will have to give me your name as I still have quite a few things to load of the next few weeks so I hope you enjoy what you see.
@wrlfc7478 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian. I think my name should show as Eamonn now. I'm always happy to hear any 42 music you have access to. I was loaned a tape of the guys in around 1980. My mate was a bass player from Lymington and he said you have to hear this guy on the Isle of Wight, Mark King and Level 42. Never looked back. Having spent a lot of time outside of the UK I guess I've seen the band about 20 times. If I was home and they were playing I'd sometimes book 3 different concerts, haha.
@JulianHallLevel428 жыл бұрын
Yep, in the early days, i`d see them two or three times in a week, Eamonn - young, free and single so only spent my money on myself! I have visited the very nice Ferrari showroom in Lyndhurst several times but unfortunately, only to look.

I didn't know Level 42 existed until 'Something About You' was on MTV. But what made me buy all of their early work was hearing the live album 'Physical Presence'. Mark was one of the 3 major bassist who influenced my playing very early on, following only Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius (equal respect for all of the other great bassists out there would develop in me over decades of learning though). I always wished I could have seen Level 42 during their early years of unbridled energy. What a great bridge they are between jazz/funk and the pop world. Their influence brought exciting instrumental pieces before a very large audience.
@JulianHallLevel428 жыл бұрын
Personally, Frank, I think the performance of 88 at the end of the Physical Presence is one of their best. I think Phil`s drumming is awesome and i love the intros and solos of each member of the band. Glad you like the early stuff I`ve posted.

Your thumbnail is the show that I attended. I flew from Sydney and met Gary at Artists Stagedoor and asked if I could meet the band he immediately went back in and came out with after show invite......much to the dismay of the other fans milling around the door. One actually said to me he had seen L42 75 times and never been invited to an aftershow. I then told him I had taken Gary out when he was on tour with Holdsworth in Sydney and Gary obviously remembered that from about 10 years prior.

Allan Holdsworth only plays the FIRST guitar solo on this recording here. He is NOT the guitarist playing the next 2 guitar solos, the last of which being on Sunshine Of Your Love. Interestingly, Level 42 usually had a second guitarist(name escapes me at the moment), and for a brief time I believe Dominic Miller played with them. The point is, I believe this other guitarist is the one playing all the solos but the FIRST. Allan is only soloing on Love Meeting Love.
