This is a very simple bass line. As far as the notes are concerned, I could teach almost anyone how to play it in an hour.

@@itsjustme8947Ha! i beg to differ😂 some of the fills and triplets he does are extremely difficult to master. Most people learn and teach it wrong

@@oliverbowen17 No offense, but you've been a bassist for how long? If you read the original bass line Mark wrote, it's quite simple and straightforward. There is a big difference playing in the studio and playing live and here, he's giving it everything. Geddy Lee is another example who plays completely different live versus studio although Rush's music tends to be far more complex to start with. We could argue all day long but I'm not going to do anything more than this.

@@itsjustme8947 non taken. I’ve been playing bass for quite awhile. Even on the original there are some triplets/ mute notes that people struggle to learn and or teach as well and some fingerings that people tend to get wrong. I’m yet to find a tutorial that is accurate to the studio version. Not trying to argue.👍

I recently discovered that for this album almost the whole original band came back to work on it for at least one song, although many did not tour. Retroglide featured input from two previous Level 42 members. Guitarist Boon Gould provided the album's lyrics (as well as contributing a guitar solo on "Ship") and the band was effectively expanded to a six-piece via extensive guest performances by Mike Lindup, who added prominent keyboard parts and vocals to many tracks. Although Phil Gould was uncredited on the album, the track "Ship" is the first song since 1986 worked on by all four original members, as Phil originally arranged the track with his brother Boon. However, Retroglide was also the first Level 42 album not to feature any contributions from Wally Badarou. It also explains why it sounds so much like the original band for the first time in a couple of decades.

I live in the United States and they are my FAVORITE band. The only opportunity I ever had to see them live was in 1986 with Madonna. I decided to pass and I don't believe they ever came back to the states. I would make a special trip to the UK or elsewhere to see them but would love to see them in the states. Come to the US!! There are lots of fans like me!

I love the classic soul and funk chords the lead guitarist is strumming .... starting at 3:58 for a minute or so. Mike Lindup making non word vocalizations to the notes he's playing on the keyboard is called "scat singing" . Nothing to do with scatological or any sort of poop stuff. George Benson uses it a lot when he plays guitar .

A cracking performance, sadly one of their visits I couldn’t make. The very first, a small nightclub in the suburb of Botley, called Blazers. Then, what was Oxford Polytechnic students Union. The next, what was the New Theatre where this was filmed. Awesome.

Reminiscent of the soul and funk music which started with black bands like the Parliaments , Isley Brothers , Sly and the family Stone back, etc in the mid to late 60s . Mark King said himself Larry Graham bassist for Sly and the Family Stone invented the hand or thumb wacka bass playing style . Of course he doesn't use it exclusively and neither did Graham . Graham said he invented it to give some beat to the band because early on they didn't have a drummer .
