Level Crossing, Armidale NSW, Australia.

This is the Markham Street level crossing at Armidale, New South Wales. It is located on what remains of the Main Northern Line which once went all the way into Queensland but now ends at Armidale.
It was recently announced that this crossing will be upgraded with new gated signals in the near future minister.infrastructure.gov.a...
These signals were installed on January 22, 1987. Three of the signals have similar equipment which comprises of an unmarked base and Westinghouse crossarm with Western Cullen Hayes lights, fitted with Aldridge LED inserts.
A fourth signal on the northern side of the crossing has an unmarked base and McKenzie & Holland crossarm with Westinghouse lights, fitted with Aldridge LED inserts. There is also a Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell on the northern side of the crossing.
Train information:
1st train: NP23 Xplorer service from Muswellbrook to Armidale, filmed on July 15, 2022.
2nd train: NP24 Xplorer service from Armidale to Muswellbrook, filmed on July 16, 2022.
Normally this Xplorer service runs all the way to Sydney, although at the time of filming it was only operating between Armidale and Muswellbrook due to flood damage further south in the Newcastle/Hunter region.

Wonder why the crossing is getting gates? There's only two trains a day on the line. Also, I wish the line was still open further north. It would be a great "inland" route, and restoring it to service would probably be cheaper than building a whole new line IMO. Were there any signalized crossings north of Armidale?

Not sure why it's getting upgraded, considering the small number of services and the train speed being slow over the crossing. Would be better off using the money to upgrade a passive crossing. There were a few signalized crossings north of Armidale at places like Guyra, Stonehenge, Glen Innes and Tenterfield.

@@McKHAust Yeah, I imagine a few passive crossings could do with these upgrades, though it would be rather weird if they had gates and this crossing didn't. Could you give the exact locations of all the signalized crossings north of Armidale if you know them? Also, what sort of equipment would they have had?

@@TrickyMario7654I know there were signals at New England Hwy Stonhenge and Gwydir Hwy Glen Innes but can't remember the exact location of the others. Both of those crossings had gateless signals, with Stonehenge having a teardrop and Glen Innes having a WRRS or WCH bell.

@@McKHAust I assume you've seen pictures of those crossings, right? As for the other two, Tenterfield likely had them at Bruxner Highway while Guyra had them on Ollera Street (I believe you can see the foundations of a relay hut in some GSV images). Would be cool to see what they had for equipment, but otherwise, it seems like they were the only crossings north of Armidale to have signals (from what I can tell). Would you agree?
