Very good video. The magpie at the end was a nice touch lol :) A bit of background; I actually lived in nearby Warracknabeal in the mid-late 1980s (about 40 km NE of Dimboola, on the Murtoa-Hopetoun line). As a kid, I used to love to watch & listen to the big, long wheat trains rumbling their way through town. But back on topic - there are a few nice crossings in Warracknabeal; two on the B200 aka Henty Highway (one near Lyle Street & another about 2 km north of the town) and a third in Kelsall Street (C245) near Molyneaux Street. The Kelsall St one had a WCH M-bell for a fair while - when I lived there it was just a passive crossing, like the one in nearby Bowman Street. (Just a bit of info if you're ever in that area again...) Looking at G-maps from March 2010, it shows the WCH M-bell at Kelsall St, and the two Henty Hwy crossings still had - wait for it - McK&H teardrop bells! However, I was up there in October of last year, & although I wasn't paying that much attention, I vaguely recall that all three crossings now have E-bells... :(

Thanks! While in the area I went for a drive to Warracknabeal and just as you said, all crossings now have e-bells.

I’ve always found the wishbones and st3 combo interesting. It’s odd to see halogens on the gates then leds and e bells on the pole. Apart from this crossing, cherry swamp lane is most likely the only other crossing with this setup

Nice to see wishbone gates outside of the Melbourne Metro trackage! I was quite surprised to see that the first train was only 10 cars long! I was also surprised to see the first 5 cars on the 2nd were all boxcars!
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The boxcars mostly seem to be used on the longer distance trains, such as Sydney - Perth and Perth - Melbourne.

Great video & crossing! Seems like Safetran Type-3s are common in Austrilia Crossings

Thanks! Safetran Type 3's are very common in Australia.

The signals here were installed in 1980, and likely had Safetran m-bells originally (going by pictures of a crossing at Stawell, which had it’s signals installed around the same as these ones).
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. Would have been interesting to see Safetran m-bells here, it would seem that the original bells didn't last for very long before they were replaced by the hybrids, I guess?
@TrickyMario76545 жыл бұрын
Probably, and I also assume the gate mechs were originally Westinghouse-McK&H.
@redhen3345 жыл бұрын
Great video! It’s great you got to film this crossing, though it would be nice if the hybrids were still here. I wonder why the reflectors on the gates are white, like on black and white gates.
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It certainly is a shame about the hybrid bells but at least they didn't replace the wishbone gates. I'm also glad they didn't install something horrible like adjusted GS Type 1 bells, just to keep it looking like a Metro crossing lol.

McK&H, you always seem to know when there's going to be a train approaching. How do you do it? Also, I like the closing shot of the magpie.
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
There's no simple explanation for finding trains. Sometimes it comes from studying timetables, doing a bit of research, asking the right people if you encounter them or simply luck (just like the magpie).

Great video. Love this crossing although sad that there’s no hybrid bells. The circular reflectors on the boom gates are different to normal. Great that the old pedestrian signs are still there . Nice catch wilts both of the freight trains. Do passenger trains run on this line?
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Overland still runs through here but I'm not aware of any other passenger trains.

@@McKHAust There also used to be V/line passenger services from Melbourne to Dimboola (usually via the Geelong-Ballarat line), but they were axed by the Kennett government in 1993.

Nice video, good the wishbone gates still survive, the wishbone gates at Yarra Street, South Geelong have been replaced now unfortunately. What's your next upload and when is it?
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's sad that wishbone gates are slowly disappearing, hopefully these ones last a while longer. Trying to decide on the correct name for the next upload, the crossing is right on the boundary of 4 different suburbs in SA, don't know when.

Every Metro operated crossing has wishbone gates.
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
@@jacktherailwayenthusiast3343 I believe Metro are going to trial flat gates on their crossings but don't know where. Hopefully the wishbone gates survive for a long time yet.

Do all the crossings on this line now have Ebells ?

I think so. All of the crossings I saw had Safetran type 3's.

Also one after thing is the gate lights are made by art craft because I’ve got one of them and it says art craft is the manufacturer
@McKHAust5 жыл бұрын
Interesting name for a gate light manufacturer!

McK&H Aust they are actually a road sign manufacturer it’s very odd
@redhen3345 жыл бұрын
Victorian Rail Heritage thanks for mentioning that, I had a look at their website and I’m thinking about buying crossbucks from there (they make both red and normal crossbucks, I believe they are the main maker). They have a shop/premises just a 40 minute drive away from me too.
@VictorianRailHeritage5 жыл бұрын
Redhen Railcar SAR yeah I forgot about that they make road signs

@@VictorianRailHeritage most interesting. I notice they only seem to have the new version of SORS signs on their site, that's a shame.

these crossings look and sound american, driving on the left aside, it has federal signal ebells which are only seen in the US and most likely Canada. also, i would like to point out that the lights on the stop arm are down undah! here in the US and canada, those lights sit on the bar as opposed to hang on the bottom, i just think thats quite unusual
@EJG487064 жыл бұрын
Ive notice that Australia signs, RR Signals and markings are very close to the USA ones.. .Your traffic lights are not the same but yeah.. its rail ROAD not Rail Way lol..
@darylatkinson88024 жыл бұрын
Its actually railway, the term railroad came after. ;)
