Level Crossing, Hawthorn (Grange Rd) SA, Australia.

This is the Grange Road level crossing at Hawthorn (Mitcham station), located in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. There are two different tracks at the crossing, the eastern track is the broad gauge passenger line from Adelaide to Belair, while the western track is the ARTC standard gauge line from Adelaide to Melbourne.
Both gated signals have Western Cullen Hayes gate mechanisms, Western Cullen Hayes incandescent lights (mounted on WRRS brackets) and Safetran type 3 electronic bells. The eastern signal has a GRS base and Unipart Rail gate lights, while the western signal has a Western Cullen Hayes base and NEG gate lights.
The western side of the crossing also has a gate-less signal with a Western Cullen Hayes base and GEC incandescent lights. There used to be another identical signal on the eastern side of the crossing which was removed some time between 2016 and 2017, it can be seen here www.google.com...
This crossing is also unusual because it is protected by stop signs in addition to the gated signals. I'm guessing this is due to the crossing being situated on top of the railway embankment which blocks the view of the intersections on either side.
Train information:
The last train shown in the video is 6PS7 freight from Perth to Sydney, with locomotives NR31, NR80, NR86 and NR102. This train usually travels through Broken Hill and Parkes but was diverted via Melbourne due to the track being closed at Parkes to allow the installation of new points for the Inland Rail project.
All other trains are Adelaide Metro passenger services operating between Adelaide and Belair.

I'm glad this crossing still has incadescent lights! Seeing many mixed liveries and an Indian Pacifc loco was also cool seeing box cars on the 100 car long freight train was also a cool bonus (plus an Allied container at 19:56. Although they are in America, I've never seen one of those containers before)

Great video! This crossing used to have a typical pre 80s setup of mostly Mck&h equipment and a WRRS, FS or WCH m bell. I’m quite surpised at the amount of impatient drivers here, must be why they have those stop signs. I wonder why they would remove a signal and not replace it.

Thanks! Would have been interesting to see the old setup here. I suspect the signal was removed because it was no longer needed after a median was installed to prevent vehicles turning right from Abbotshall Rd.

This has stop signs affixed to the dingers because the street is so steep to approach the crossing. You physically can't see the other side until the last moment. A lot of drivers can't see the stop signs.

Thanks! I don't think the stop signs are very effective, they actually cause the traffic to bank up a long way back from the crossing, and many people ignore them anyway!

Thanks! I'm not sure about the stop signs, my guess is they were installed to slow down traffic because of the intersections on both sides. The crossing is situated on a hump which obstructs the view of approaching vehicles.
