Since my turntable broke 10yrs ago and my storage unit w/ 80% of my vinyl collection got cleared out by a notoriously hard-to-locate (they leeched off different distant relatives each night) "family" of "wandering free proud folk" or whatever dirty eastern EU gypsies wants to be called nowadays, Ive given up large scale collecting and been recovering my library digitally. With at least 150% add-ons and gap-fillers!! KMDs debut was joined by Black Bastards and all Kurious singles, I completed MF Grimm's masterpiece Scars & Memories & Ibliys with the original 1992-1996 7'' and 10'' singles when possible (the overdubs on 50% of the trax on Scars.. is well-made but its cool to bop head to the originals). And ofc, I did a deep dive into VIC cause Ive been a Beatnuts/Screwball/Godfather Don fan since forever. This track right here, with a 17-18 yr old Vic Padilla on the boards seem to be the 'true' origin story. And not a bad one! Btw, Domingo, is he Vic's fatter older brother? Even though I never even considered going over to the Great Satan's 1st city & check out Queens, South Bronx, LES, BK to visit "famous spots" and gawk at the income rifts, police brutality and drug trade like a retarded culture vulture tourist (plus: in 2024 itd be almost pointless, its about the same over here, just less racially motivated), still its weird how much the boros and especially QB has meant to me. I was team Juice Crew from the start - even though I wouldve loved to see Shan, KGR, Craig, Cormega, Poet and BDK swing some BDP/PE/PRT style egalitarian radicalism and no-compromise black & red consciousness while winning the bridge wars in '87 but Ill settle for Mr. Bass & Tragedy getting into that anti-imperialism shit full force a year or two later - and even if Beatnuts and Vic are from Corona and several others I fcuk with and count as Queens OGs are from Jamaica, which as I understand it aint QB Projects, its still darker gnarlier shit somehow than most from other boros
