Coming back to this video series to look at some new-to-me smocking types... Would LOVE if you did a quick walk through on that lattice-type stitch on your shirt collar! It's beautiful.

I mean...people haven't changed all that much! I mean I'm not gonna write a dissertation....I just want something that works for me!

@@ThimbleAndPlume That's a interesting thought, wondering if anyone has done a dissertation on either hand sewing or smoking.

I love smocking.. would it be adaptable to maternity and nursing wear?
@conniecarroll72223 жыл бұрын
Wow I love the detailing you showed on the sleeves plus how to correct a mistake or should we sewers say miscalculation? I love hand sewing since I have a bad habit of gunning the sewing machine. Find it very relaxing. Would like to know if you use a pleater for the first part of the smocking?
@ThimbleAndPlume3 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you! Yes, I did use a pleater for my pleats. I show my whole process in a video all about hand and machine pleating here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaDPg4GlrJuMebM...if you are interested. 😀

Just a question do you remove the guide threads after completing the honeycomb smocking before you block it
@ThimbleAndPlume3 жыл бұрын
Great question. You can do either. I have tried both and haven't noticed a difference.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you know what type of buttons would be popular on shirts in 16th century Germany?
@ThimbleAndPlume3 жыл бұрын
I don't mind! I haven't come across much that is specific to Germany, but I can say that buttons would have been a shank variety and I have seen evidence from other areas of cloth, thread covered wood core, and bone. Beatrice Nutz did a paper about 2 thread covered buttons that were found in the Lengberg castle finds available here www.academia.edu/3612341/15th_century_thread_buttons_from_Lengberg_Castle .

Do you think style was popular because it accommodated pregnancy?
