I wore glasses for 4 years while training and figured out it was giving me headaches. I now shoot spectacle free and my game is better by a smidge. Thx for the info but glasses aren't always the answer. I had to get my depth perception and alignment back in order which took a while to adjust to.

No, correcting vision issues will not correct poor pool fundamentals, and the video should never have been interpreted to claim that fixing vision will solve all of your pool problems. You claim poor alignment, which honestly is an issue in the vast majority of players games. Even the best snooker players in the world find that their beginning shot approach from which they were receiving visual information was incorrect, thus creating a chain of events which creates small issues from sight center, stance, cue alignment, and stroke plain. If you get down on your shot and you see blurry, ghost edging, etc from vision issues, correcting them certainly is a wise choice because you are otherwise guessing the point of contact 100% of the time. Of course, changing how you optically receive information can take adjusting, just like any other change in your game and will require time, practice and patience.

I ordered some about 2-3 months ago, snooker spex. I wear contacts when I play out, but at home I generally wear glasses and wanted to stop having to squint to see. I'll say this... they take getting used to. It definitely shifts your vision over what you get used to shooting in glasses or contacts. I think if I got used to then they would be great, everything is much clearer when you are down on the ball, but right now I just can't. The other option is Lasik(or similar) which I am seriously considering at this point.

I've had headaches when my Rx has changed and I get new progressive lenses and/or different size/shape frames. If you're switching from contacts to glasses, that's a huge difference on the eye muscles. I've been told by freinds that when they have to switch, headaches are common. I need to look at Lasik again. Last time I was checking it out, they didn't want (won't) do it if your Rx has not been stable for a year+. Not sure if that's still the case.

@@stringlarson1247 so, everyone will be a bit different, but i'll tell you my exp. I did look into lasik, but as I'm in my mid 40s, it would mean I would go from distance glasses to reading glasses, and I wasn't willing to trade one for the other. You can do "mono-vision" (one eye far, one eye near) but the point of lasik for me would be pool playing, and monovision wouldn't help with that (I would think). When I play at home I wear glasses. When I go to play league or a tournament I wear contacts. I do find a few seconds of slight adjustment after I put contacts in, but barely even notice it anymore. I actually don't notice a difference in playing one way or another, in the sense that I play "bad' with contacts because I spend a majority of my time practicing at home with glasses. That just isn't the case. I will say that I recently got new glasses that are much harder to play pool in (the top rim is lower I think) and so have started using my snooker-spex more at home and have gotten used to them, but again, play with contacts when I go out, and find myself only improving. With normal glasses, there is just no way to get a good low sightline without snooker-spex-like glasses, or like I did, lots of squinting to push my glasses up my forehead with my nose. I would never shoot in a competitive event without my contacts. One day maybe I might lose enough shame and vanity to be willing to wear my snooker-spex in public, but it is not this day.

I've recently started playing quite a bit recently and have various shaped eyeglasses and/or eyeglasses specifically ground for computer work. I think I'm going to get some of these. My Rx lenses can get pretty expensive depending on the features/material due to astigmatism and amount of correction needed. I think a mirrored pair would be pretty cool.

I love playing pool, but have the same problems with wearing glasses: looking over my lenses when down on my shot, glasses sliding down my nose when down on my shot. I need to wear glasses because I am near-sighted, but do not want to wear contact lenses nor do I want to get refractive surgery like LASIK to correct my vision. I am fine with wearing glasses so long as they look fashionable and not hinder my pool playing. I've actually been contemplating buying some large-frame aviator glasses just for playing pool.

We say bite the bullet, get a pair of billiard glasses. People will notice the “different” looking glasses for about an hour and then it’ll be business as usual. Don’t knowingly sacrifice your game when you know there is a custom solution for it!

Get creative with your own pair. If they are metal you can bend them up so when you get down on your shot you won't be looking over the rim. Or if plastic use a lighter to heat and bend. Or simply make a cool looking nose clamp that gets kinda hidden. So that your glasses sit on it snugly putting the lenses higher on your eyes. I e done them before. Sorry to burst your ad I'm sure your glasses work great.

@@josheisert8380 Ad? No ad, no payments here, Josh. We are simply providing information to players. If the ocular center of the lenses (after your suggested modification) works, great, but highly doubtful that standard configured vision glasses will have the OC anywhere remotely where it needs to be.

When searching about the glasses lots of ppl say get single vision over progressive as it has a better "sweet spot" this was a couple year back though, we now have progressive "digital " made lenses.. would they be the duck nuts now ?

Some professionals such as Efren Reyes and Oscar Dominguez got LASIK. Oscar Dominguez said he had his best run in his career after getting LASIK, but I he had to do it again recently.i can't wear my regular glasses playing pool, I guess I'm just going by feel on the long shots. I'm tempted on getting billiard glasses or trying contacts.

Yes, lasik is an option, but we didn’t not feel comfortable suggesting an option which requires invasive surgery. All recommends are safe and fairly easy to obtain and use.

I don't understand. Most prescriptions are for specific things like distance or reading. If you want to use your glasses to drive but also need to see the dashboard you'd need to have bifocals with distance and maybe a mid-range. How would a "normal" prescriptions help someone who wants to maximize the range just between around the tip of the cue to7ft (maybe 10ft for snooker?) I would think when getting an eye exam for these one would have to tell the examiner the exact range to dial in. I'm not an eye doc, but I am a photographer and know about focal lengths and depth of field. I'm guessing if one wants to see images sharply between 3-8ft one would have to have them zeroed in to 5ft. Theoretically, one could get eyedrops that close down the iris to a to a small opening assuming the table is well lit and such drops exist. Only half kidding there, but what am I missing?

I watched a Brit who wore glasses for snooker. One thing he discussed you did not was the camber of the lens. Do these lens have the reverse camber? I mean now the top of my glasses are out in front of the bottom of my glasses by a few degrees, while the snooker glasses were tilted slightly differently where the bottoms were out front of the top of the glasses a few degrees.
@seekinggravity
@seekinggravity Жыл бұрын
Yes, a proper set of billiard glasses will have a tilt to them to better accommodate shooting position sight. Another reason why it’s important that if you are going to go through the process of getting a pair, that you make sure you get them through a true company that knows what they are doing (rather than trying to find the cheapest price possible). :)

Is there a reason for the reluctance to discuss price?
@seekinggravity
@seekinggravity 7 ай бұрын
Price was literally discussed. Of course, this was ballpark due to a number of reasons: everyones configuration will be different, everyone will probably source them from different locations. This is simply a discussion for the sake of awareness and encouragement to improve your game via eye sight correction if it is an issue.

Just have your glass maker raise the optical center. Easy and cheaper.

You must have REALLY big standard lenses that sit REALLY high on your face, others wise you’re still going to be looking over the top of your lenses when down on your cue, no matter where you ask them to put the OC on standard lenses. Half measures, especially financially-based ones, rarely do the trick, and end up costing you more money down the road and never fully meet your needs - resulting in you buying a real pair of glasses designed to do the job once frustration boils over.

No mention of the pros/cons of Lasik?
@seekinggravity
@seekinggravity Жыл бұрын
With LASIK being a one-and-done solution that may or may not help your vision; coupled with the fact that everyone’s timing and reason for getting it are something we feel goes well past playing a game. Whereas glasses and contacts aren’t an irreversible health change, we feel comfortable encouraging people to get the best vision possible with those options.

Though contacts are an ideal solution, there are many vision corrections that they cannot be accomplished with contacts, thus the need for a glasses solution which can.
